No, but IMO she was right to object.
Why race discrimination?

She said she was dismissed for whistle blowing which isn't the same.
Ms Bi, an Oxford University Graduate, from Yardley in Birmingham, is now pursuing claims against the school for unfair dismissal and religious discrimination.

I can understand the complaint about showing 11 / 12 year olds a clip of film which is rated for over 18's but I fail to see where religious discrimination comes into it.
I don't think we know enough about it. her reasons for not showing it seem to have nothing to do with religion or race and I doubt this refusal to show the video was the only factor in the decision to dismiss. I am also not sure what arguments she has for saying it was racial discrimination. So I am not sure we can say either way based on this story. Muslim isn't a race so I am not sure why the Mail even mentioned her religion - unless they wanted to get people mutttering about Muslims again
It was shown though, ff.

But outside the hearing, Ms Bi said: 'It was shown to some 30 children during class. I understand the video was shown without the permission of the authorities.

Not teacher but teaching assistant.
Perhaps she will now find work in a Muslim Faith school.............and find objections to voice there too. You know beheadings and the like?

//The class had been studying a poem called Out of the Blue, by Simon Armitage, about a victim of the 9/11 terrorist attack. The poem is part of the AQA GCSE syllabus.//

Any chance that this was what the "teaching assistant" of 1 weeks standing was objecting to?
I don't think for a moment that article has all the details we need, so I shall just stick to saying I think Ms Bi was right to raise concerns re that video for that age group.
I think she did the right thing, but for the wrong reason.
What a waste of an Oxford degree.
Looking at her CV I think she'll do OK - been busy, even started her own business at 17.

I suspect she is claiming race discrimination as no action was taken against the teacher who screened it.

DB > Could she be a bit of a drama queen.

Well she certainly got bovvered!
Yet again the 'Wail' introducing the 'Muslim' factor when it has nothing to do with religion. The teacher is objecting correctly to 11 year olds being shown a video that is rated for over 18s only. The fact that the teacher is Muslim has nothing to do with it.

Not even a Teacher

///Suriyah Bi, 24, lost her job at Heartlands Academy in Birmingham, after just a week of being a teaching assistant in a year seven class there.///

She's not a teacher and she's suing for Racial Discrimination EDDIE.

This is not at all clear. She claims she was concerned about children being exposed to graphic scenes. How is that 'religious discrimination'?
