apparently it's outdated, and not reflective of global values...

if that's the case, what song would properly reflect britain's modern multicultural position in the world?

looks like another anti British love in.
I agree with waterboatman about Land of Hope and Glory, but I also like the National Anthem and would like to keep it.
Still can't see why anyone is taking any notice whatsoever of what this man is saying.
I'm not taking any notice of him Naomi, just giving my opinion. He's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.
^I agree.
I like divebuddy's comment about him being an oxygen thief (lol).
Sounds about right.
Tribal ululating would suffice

nah that would be unacceptable due to cultural misappropriation.
i would prefer an anthem that extolls the beauty of our country, and sums up the national character, or the good points about the UK, not the queen
he's right, it's a dreary dirge that has to have its verse about crushing the Scots removed. Shouldn't a national anthem be about the nation rather than about its hereditary ruler and the British God who is imagined to be protecting her?
Yes, there has to be something a bit more inspiring than the one we have now.
No-one has mentioned 'I vow to thee, my country'. I would very happily have that as my anthem, Scots could think of Scotland, Welsh of Wales, Irish of Ireland, English of England, mongrels like me of the whole caboodle - but all British and, when push comes to shove, that is what we are.

I'm not keen on the idolatry of the monarchy which our present anthem entails.
