I hope the driver dosent get charged for any offences.

I would have done the same, it must have been frightening driving through that lot at night, when they are throwing stones etc.

Khandro, of course the dead man's status is unimportant but what is relevant is what was happening on the road at the time and that will be investigated. I imagine many of us may think we could have handled the situation better, but until it happens to you then we don't know so we?

if it was an accident, no. If it could have been avoided, yes. You don't kill people just because they scare you, even in France.
I would have done the same,

?
here here
I don't think the driver wanted to kill the man you know trt.
Assuming he was driving legally (insured/passed test), safely and within the speed limits I don't see what offences he could be charged with. He did report it to the authorities- as along as that was done as soon as was reasonably practicable I don't see it as being 'hit and run' in the circumstances. .
on the basis that the number of "intending traveller" pedestrians on the motorways around calais is well known, that drivers should be prepared to encounter them and act accordingly. so if one is run over and killed, would that be seen as the driver not exercising their duty of care?
Self defence surely.

Reported. Sigh
well if the French plods would do their job then perhaps they'd not be in the kermit. Personally I'd run them down too if I had my family in the jam jar with these j' Arthurs trying to stop me.
//This is the 14th death of a migrant from the Calais area since the beginning of the year, and many of the fatalities have been related to traffic accidents.//

Looks like it's becoming an occupational hazard - but if you stand in the road you ought to realise there's a chance you'll be run over. I feel very sorry for the driver. What a horrible experience.

You are forgetting that this is British motorist and his unintended victim was a foreigner, so I hope the driver has a pretty strong defence lawyer.
okay
I'm amazed the figures aren't higher given the amount and size of traffic in that area.

As stated a horrible thing to experience.

erm......he was British and in France.
Do we know whether any other drivers have been identified, charged or prosecuted following eprevious deaths?
Inexcusable, you cannot kill a man and injure his wife, whatever the circumstances, he will have to stand trial.
Well he turned himself in and is being questioned re the circumstances, so it's a wait and see situation now.

FF, I've tried to find if anyone has been prosecuted in similar circumstances but haven't managed to find anything as yet.
Thanks, Mamyalynne
