// most own brand products are actually made by the same producers of the branded goods. //

They are. So if the fluctuation in the value of the pound means manufacturing costs are higher, then the own brands will also go up as well as the brands.
Marmite is produced in a factory in Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire and it has been made there since 1902.

The factory produces 6,000 tons of Marmite a year. That's around around 50 million jars.

The basic ingredient of the spread is yeast sludge, a waste product left over from brewing beer, and there were once 30 breweries in the surrounding area.

Now, the raw materials come from across the UK.

It's right next to the Pedigree(beer) factory - and it stinks.
This is clealy a spat between the Supermarkets and the anti EU Manufacturer who seems to think they can blame Brexit.

But like all the lies of Bremainers it is exposed for what it is.

If they had an iota of sense they would have only put up products that could be affected by a change in the Pound.

Odd how when th price of the pound is good we dont get a lower price isnt it?
Ymb,
Unilever are not anti EU.
They are a worldwide business.
This story has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit, Pro or Anti. Imports or raw ingredients is costing more, so the manufacturer wants to pass on the costs. Tesco are free to pass on the more expensive products, and good luck to them.

Unilever are only interested in their bottom line. As long as people keep buying their products in the same numbers as before, they are not bothered if the UK is in or out of the EU.
Why people insist on premium brands I will never know. We always by own brands wherever possible, they are just as good and cheaper. Some people are so stuck in their ways and never try anything different.

Really? just like most 'Remainers' they are still nursing their wounds.

This from pre-referendum.

*** Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, added: “The use of our company name and trademark in this way is a clear attempt to mislead the British people. Unilever does not support Vote Leave and does not advocate leaving the European Union, and never has. We believe that for jobs and investment the United Kingdom is far better off remaining a member of the EU.” ***

Having said that Dave, I can personally come up with an exception.

My grandchildren could always tell the difference between 'own brand' cornflakes and Kellogg's.
Unilever is like marmite - you either love it or hate it

I vote hate for shameless profiteering
AOG,
Unilever were objecting to the illegal use of their logo, which is a different matter.

// We believe that for jobs and investment the United Kingdom is far better off remaining a member of the EU.” //
Because the pound is worth 16% less since Brexit, Unilever is not making as much money, so they will have less to reinvest in the UK. If Tesco's boycott hits, then jobs will be lost too. So Unilevers statement pre-Brexit is proving to be accurate.
But I repear, the spat is not about Brexit, it is about dominance and business relationships.
It's all over. A momentous peace deal has been made, peace will rein once more between Tesco and Unilever
