/// 'The treatment by some towards these young refugees is hideously racist and utterly heartless. What's happening to our country?' ///

But then Lineker has always been supportive of 'Walkers'. :0)

“No one objects to genuine lone vulnerable children being You must speak for yourself, OG. I object to them being helped by the UK when they have passed through a number of other safe countries and have languished in squalor in France for some time. I live close to a Boys school and the 6th formers have to wear suits and ties. Loads of them could pass for fully grown men.
I can only echo New Judges succinct post!
// belladonner, I don't 'presume' to be educated. I am educated. //
Nigh love can you show it every now and then ? your education I mean

NJ - ...children decamping else where during the bombing 1940.....
yup Canada - large numbers of children 'decamped' as you put it and abandoned when a transport was sunk and they drowned. Such ignorance is disgraceful. and whilst I am at it - large numbers of children were interned by the Japanese.

You're at it again. The reader could be forgiven for thinking you've joined the ranks of the stalkers. Careful.

/// I am not sure how much tax Gary Lineker pays but I expect that even if he has some avoidance advisers he is still paying a lot more tax than most of us, so maybe he has some right to say how he would like it to be spent ///

He has every right to criticise the government, but no matter how much in taxes he pays, he has no right whatsoever to call those who are against this import of men posing as children, racists and utterly heartless.

If I lived in a 3rd world country war zone in which food and water were hard to obtain, education and healthcare was non existent and where, executions and in which a war has been raging in which we had been getting bombed and shot at for a war I didn't understand and where I had lost 20-30 members of my family in kidnappings, tribal or drug wars I'd hazard a guess that I'd probably look about 30 and aged compared to my western counterpart who had grown up with 0 of this issues.
"I object to them being helped by the UK when they have passed through a number of other safe countries and have languished in squalor in France for some time. There were plenty of opportunities for them to be helped before now."

Disgusting.

If they were your kids would you want them to be half helped in these countries or have all the benefits that living in the U.k would bring?

Let's be honest here, you'd obviously pick the latter.
Lunol, what proof do you have that children passing through Spain and France, for example, would be only half helped? What does half helped mean anyway?
vulcan42, I mean that our education, housing, healthcare and benefits systems before they were overloaded were 2nd to none in Europe especially from an immigrants point of view.
Lunol, //I mean that our education, housing, healthcare and benefits systems before they were overloaded were 2nd to none in Europe especially from an immigrants point of view. //

It would appear that they're still regarded by immigrants as being second to none in Europe - hence the clamour to come here from other safe countries.
naomi24 they must be misinformed by the people smugglers who aren't telling them the truth about our systems being overloaded, employment being hard to find, laws changing etc..

The people smugglers must be rubbing their hands in glee at the "lambs their sending to their slaughter"
or they're if we're speaking English
Lunol, when all the thousands of immigrants arrive the services you mention will be second to last. Why does everybody conveniently forget that the rule is " to stop in the first safe country" not "keep going until you find a country that gives you everything you want"?
"Lunol, when all the thousands of immigrants arrive the services you mention will be second to last."

Agreed as my post at 11.57 mentions exactly that.

"naomi24 they must be misinformed by the people smugglers who aren't telling them the truth about our systems being overloaded, employment being hard to find, laws changing etc..

"Why does everybody conveniently forget that the rule is " to stop in the first safe country" not "keep going until you find a country that gives you everything you want"?"

LOl! I never realised there was a book either physical or metaphorical of rules in which morals were addressed by rules.

In an illegal war where you may have had to obtain money illegally to pay to illegal doing people smugglers who then go on to use the money doing illegal crimes who then use illegal means to smuggle you illegally into a country to sometimes do illegal things then "Rules" are pretty much thrown out the window.

Besides as I said why stop at a country which won't really help you when the people smugglers have promised you "El Dorado" and the worlds "Paradise" ( The U.k )

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe the people smugglers only take large sums from those they've managed to "Sell" the trip of a lifetime to the U.k with those only wanting to pay a little to go to the first country they come to and only willing to pay a little being told "Sorry, there's no room on the boats for you unless you're travelling to the U.k"?

Very possible I think.
How many of these children could you fit in your circus tent, Lunol?
Circus tents? You mean tents in immigration camps here in the U.k?

This could possibly work and take the burden off the housing systems but this then brings a whole host of other issues such as finding the land to to do this on and then securing it with fences, security, police which then makes it essentially a prison which the media would then have a field day with amongst other issues imo.
\\ LOl! I never realised there was a book either physical or metaphorical of rules in which morals were addressed by rules. //
I suggest you research the laws of war where there are 161 rules laid out.
Lunol, //naomi24 they must be misinformed by the people smugglers who aren't telling them the truth about our systems being overloaded, employment being hard to find, laws changing etc.. //

Perhaps - but they're telling them the truth about our benefits system being one of the easiest - and before you say 'it isn't' - it is.
Vulcan42, I'm not going to read 161 rules of war which I'm guessing are not one line rules but paragraphs as would probably take a day or a week and I can tell you that someone escaping a war torn 3rd world country hell hole, where there is no electricity, no internet, hardly any food or water and is being rained on with bombs, are at risk from being blown up, executed or kidnapped by terrorists aren't going to either.

Would you?
