A Cash Deal With Nissan V Worker's Jobs?

Much has been debated and speculated on, but if the Government has actually done a cash deal with Nissan, who could be against it, if it saves UK workers jobs?

It would depend on how big a bribe had been paid by the taxpayer. We could do with a British car maker rather than pander to those from elsewhere. One needs to work out the balance of pros and cons.

Does it really matter, if we can afford it?

As regards us starting to manufacture cars ourselves, that path has been taken in the past remember British Leyland?

Nearly everything in the UK is owned by foreign nationals, so whichever way you look at it, we are in their hands.

The government has told Nissan that it is seeking a 'tariff free' deal for UK car makers after we leave the EU

But Nissan has also been assured that if we do not get the tariff free deal (as I think will happen) they will idemnify them against any future tariffs.
So it is true there is not a 'cash' deal but they have a written promise that the government will pay all extra cost due to 'Brexit'.Of course this means they may have to do the same for any other company.
We will see a U turn as soon as the cost gets too high.

The Thatcher government supported the enforcement of EU rules forbidding state aid for industry in the 1980s. They did so because they grasped that not doing so would result in multinational companies playing one state against another in an auction to attract the highest bidder.
Given that their great heroine felt that way, what has happened to all the right-wingers on AB who are supporting the exact opposite as far as Nissan...and presumably whoever else threatens the government similarly...is concerned?
