There are definitely salient points in Nick Cohen's article, I've read it before.

## So instead of the church helping those refugees who are here what do you suggest we do- let them wander the streets, put them in camps with no facilities? I'm curious. ##

F/F: What do you suggest we do with the British people & The Army Veterans, we cant let them wander the streets, they are already there!!!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and of course often these debates get heated and that is regrettable, these are troublesome areas and there is not one simple solution.

Trt, I raised that earlier , we have many many Charities and indeed Churches for the groups you mention - if you know anyone not getting help put them in touch.

Equally if you are in the local area to Offchurch see if you can garner some backing for a shelter for the homeless children and ex service personnel you mention.

I recall when I was a girl (long time ago) the Church undercroft had a soup kitchen at weekends for the homeless - 1960's.
divebuddy, // Must be a difficult read for those who think "being a nice caring person" is always the way forward. //

Perhaps not difficult to read ... but convenient to ignore.
I managed to read it, and I do think that being a nice caring person is the way forward.
^There you go. :o)
Naomi - thank you.

*We* understand that you believe the doors to the UK should be firmly slammed in the faces of *all* who want to come here.

*We* kindly few believe that the UK is large enough and generous enough to accommodate those most in need.

You choose to believe that *we*, therefore, subscribe to a completely open-door situation where we are happy to admit all and sundry with little or no regard to exactly who/what they are and precious little concern for the inhabitants of these islands.

It is not true, and the more you make statements to that effect, the more you show up your own lack of fellow-feeling.
If I, born and bred here, happened to be unfortunate enough to be a homeless person living on the streets now, I would feel absolutely total despair if I didn't already, and probably suicidal upon hearing this news.
jack - if this was my thread, I would give you Best Answer for that.

Succinctly put with none of the nasty malice that seems to infect the posts of the less human people who post in this section.

/// They have escaped death by getting out with no more than the clothes they stand up in. ///

I refer you to Baldic's previous post:

/// Why do they bother when they all seem to be wearing Designer Clothes and have the latest Smartphones? ///
Islay

/// Naomi what do you think is going to happen to the village because they have taken some immigrants in? Do you think it is going to become infected or unclean in some manner? ///

It could be even worse than that, yes there is a chance that some of the villagers could become infected or even raped.

Not all these immigrants are families, they are mostly young single men, who come from lands that have a history of treating women as possessions.

Look what happened when Ministry of Defence agreed to let up to 2,000 Libyan recruits train at Bassingbourn Barracks in Cambridgeshire.

jackthehat, who are *we* and who are you talking to?
/// Up to 35 refugees at a time will be given shelter for up to two weeks while permanent homes are found. ///

TWO WEEKS??????????

How come some of our own, are on the 'Housing List' for years, before they are given a permanent home?
aog, it's transpired that it's not happening after all. The thread has moved on since then.
*We* are those being pilloried for
- not living in the real world;
- being nice caring people;
- seeking to undermine British society;
- caring more for 'incomers' than our own deserving poor....etc., etc.

You'll have to make your own mind up about the rest.
Naomi - I think you know who jack is talking to.

We are certainly jack and I, and there are others, who believe that a little compassion goes a long way in the world, and who don't share this endless doom-mongering fear of Muslim domination.

You is yourself, and those who frequently post with hostility and paranoia about the concept of 'foreigners' swarming all over this country raping and pillaging like latter-day Vikings.
jack and I cross-posted, but I am pleased to have added my voice to hers on this.
