I am full of the 'milk of human kindness' when it comes to homeless kids on our streets and ex servicemen who get handed a raw deal after fighting for their county. THEY should have priority over refugees and migrants imo.

Let's just recap on one of the nominations:

The failure to help our own 'people in need' is, indeed, a shameful state of affairs....but it can be assuaged, in part, if other human beings are helped where they can be.

There are a huge number of Charities in all areas for almost every conceivable group - if the help is not reaching these people, yes it's a tragedy too.

But they aren't obliged to take any notice. We have the prospect of urban sprawl just down the road from where I live, with the subsequent loss of countryside. Don't know anyone here that wants it but the leaflets pushed through the door indicate that we can discuss what we want but it is still going ahead (obviously because we and our views, aren't important).

oh I see - none of the kindertransport were refugees let along Jewish refugees because in 1939 they came here instead of a safe country like er Poland or France . Bit like Anne Frank - her Dad otto was a german national ....

I don't claim to be an expert PP but it is my belief that the convention that put together rules on refugees was put together by the UN in 1951, which would have been too late to define refugees in 1939 at which time it would have been more of a free-for-all (I suspect since such mass fleeing would not have been expected before the world wars).
