Of course he has a point. All this 'pot calling the kettle black' sort of thing is just white noise. You can't ignore what has been said just because you don't like the messenger. Maybe he should just pass a note to someone else and they say it. That way someone might actually sit up and do something about it. Society is losing cohesion ever so slightly all the time...

Its very difficult to answer a question where we are dictated to how we can answer it - but I will try.

Considering Russia's standpoint on human rights I don't think Russia or its President can have the gall to criticize others!
That's not answering the question, Islay.

Yes he has a point, the handling of the refugee/migrant crisis has been abysmal

No one was dictated to, I requested politely.

But obviously it was wasted on the likes of you, since you chose to ignore my request, and chose to criticise not only Putin but the whole of the Russian people.
The situation could certainly have been handled better than it was.
//But obviously it was wasted on the likes of you..//

//..the likes of you..// ?

What's with all this animosity on AB nowadays ?

It's always been there just as not answering questions.

From the article

//'He was originally convicted of the crime but it was overturned because a court didn't prove he realised the boy was saying no.//

Absolutely sickening!

'A society that can't defend its children has no tomorrow'
I don't think with hypocrisy like that, that you can really accuse Putin of having any sort of point at all. If I can be bothered I'll look up the figures for child rape in his country.
Maybe he feels that the extended, welcome, cessation of the slaughter of children in Aleppo makes him a new authority on the subject of child safety.

How is Islay criticising the whole Russian people?
I suspect 'the Russians' doesn't mean the whole nation, any more than 'the British wanting to leave the EU' refers to all of us :-)
No comparison was asked for, yes Putin is hypocritical but the question was ....

Has Putin Got A Point?

That's animosity, you seem such a sinking violet, but then we all know otherwise, don't we?

What should I have said?

People with the same thoughts and grievances towards me as you?

Why use 11 words when you can say the same with only 4?
But Talbot the question may be has Putin got a point but we are not allowed to answer yes or no!
Yes !

We can criticise the wording about Britain if we must, when the need arises and it is not needed on this thread.

This is what Islay said.

/// "Considering Russia's standpoint on human rights I don't think Russia or its President can have the gall to criticize others"! ///

She is criticising the whole of the Russian people, a country cannot criticise, only it's people or a section of it's people.

Semantics I know, but you did start it.

no! ///

I did not ban you from doing so, only polity requesting you not to do so.

I wanted for this to turn into a debate not a simple yes or no.

If I wanted that I could have started a poll, giving the preference of yes or no.

But then you already realised that, but you just wanted to derail the thread because it has some truths that you do not like discussed.
Yes.
Yes, he has a point.
If Ronnie Kray in his prime had done a piece condemning shoplifters it would have had the same moral conviction.

Re what one means by 'Russians' Islay will have to answer for herself but I know what she'll say.
Yes, he has a point.

Of course, as usual, the left try to hijack the thread and twist it never answering the question whist doing so.

Probably: at the top of his head.

It is easy to point at an issue in another country in order to disparage it, but anyone with sense sees it for what it is. Criticise others in the hope of distracting from one's own shortcomings.

Like one can stop all criminal activity without being a dictatorial tyranny. Let's all have zero tolerance for even the smallest demeanour and Draconian punishments to ensure everybody lives in fear of getting something wrong. Vote Fascist for a Third Glorious Decade of Total Law Enforcement. Be a Government Informer. Betray Your Family & Friends. Fabulous Prizes to be Won. That'll solve all our problems
AOG....from someone who is committing war crimes, by actively bombing children in Syria. I am not sure I can take anything he says on the issue of defending children seriously.
