You make a fair point there...
This paragraph for instance...
//The jury heard their "toxic relationship" was the reason behind the murders, and were described as Britain's 'Bonnie and Clyde'. The court was told the boy would do anything to make the girl happy.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Holley, of Lincolnshire Police, said: "The outside world, in a way, didn’t exist.//

I think Andy has probably hit the nail on the head here.
It would be interesting to learn more about the family background of the two girls involved. I can't help but feel that there must be something in the girls upbringing that resulted in these two murders. The girls were only 14 at the time of the killings by the way.

Life is so precious, they have not only brutally taken two lives, but they have also cast aside 20 years of their own young lives.
For what??????????? when others of their age are enjoying their lives to the full, playing sport, video gaming, going to the cinema and discovering the opposite sex etc etc.

That encapsulates the tragedy of this entire tragic situation.
And of course, they will not have had the consequences in their minds at the time - no criminal does, or they would not be criminals!

"Britain's 'Bonnie and Clyde"
Wow, now there's a glamorisation and sensualizing you don't expect to hear from the media.
Did the reporter even do any research on the story of Bonnie and Clyde? Obviously not.
To be that warped at that young tells me that these kids have serious mental issues and will still be at risk to the public when they come out as the Bolger murderers were.
