As mayor of London Boris defended his city – and then said that now Trump has been elected we must forge a good political relationship with his administration. Of course we must. What else would you expect him to say - or us to do? Trump has been an object of ridicule throughout his campaign because few expected him to emerge as, arguably, the most powerful politician on earth. Boris is not the first to employ a little essential diplomacy and he won’t be the last.
Many who concentrated on Trump's weaknesses (of which there are many to select) prior to him becoming president elect are now going to try to find the silver linings. Especially Foreign Secretaries. One has to make the best of situations as they arise not stay on one's high horse sticking to some plan that anticipated something different.
It hasn't all been lovey-dovey between Clinton and Obama.
