Both. It’s called diplomacy. As mayor of London Boris defended his city – and then said that now Trump has been elected we must forge a good political relationship with his administration. Of course we must. What else would you expect him to say - or us to do? Trump has been an object of ridicule throughout his campaign because few expected him to emerge as, arguably, the most powerful politician on earth. Boris is not the first to employ a little essential diplomacy and he won’t be the last.
It is something Corbyn doesnt get so I am not surprised you dont get it either. as Naomi says it is diplomacy, you cant let personal feelings get in the way of doing things for the masses. so in answer to your question Both.

And anyway, a week in politics is a long time. A year is an eternity.

YMB...4 years is even longer !
Boris and Donald should hit it off. They both say things off the top of their head without worrying too much about the fallout from the easily offended.

Talbot...on that I would have to agree with you...........both have an ability to be offensive, although Trump is streets ahead of Our Farage in that department !
Many who concentrated on Trump's weaknesses (of which there are many to select) prior to him becoming president elect are now going to try to find the silver linings. Especially Foreign Secretaries. One has to make the best of situations as they arise not stay on one's high horse sticking to some plan that anticipated something different.

OG...sounds like an recipe for hypocrisy to me !

Not that Boris hasn't got a track record in that dept, considering his conversion on the road to Damascus over BREXIT.
Yes 4 years ought to be enough to at least make a good start on the corrupt Washington Elite Establishment who no longer have A Presidents *** in their pocket.

YMB....I think that Trump will soon learn that he can't do most of the things that he promised and bribed the American Electorate with.
Personally I consider that an overused and often inappropriate label. You can't be a good diplomat without knowing boundaries and looking for what achieves best for your country, and/or the world in general.
They are both Americans , Trump has made it to president, Boris is still trying to work out how to become Prime Minister , why shouldn't they get on with each other?
neither .... he is called a politician ....

[ you can see his lips move etc ]
Question Author
Gulliver....don't worry about Boris....he will keep on trying to get into Number Ten, no matter how many times he has to change his mind over important issues.
have we had ....?
( Nigh as an educated person - I am surprised if she missed this ...)

A diplomat is an honest man sent abroad to lie for his country ....

Dr Johnson I think
Peter Pedant, you're singling me out again for no good reason. Careful ... your intention could be misconstrued.
A diplomat is an honest person sent abroad to lie for his country.
Boris should be good at that, after all lies he told about Brexit,
All the mainstream politicians under estimated Trump, and Boris is not the only one having to do some back tracking.
Farage on the other hand, went over there and actively campaigned with and for Trump. I wonder how that favour will be repaid?
It hasn't all been lovey-dovey between Clinton and Obama.

/// The bitter exchanges didn’t even end there, in mid-April. Clinton had yet to make the unfortunate, racially loaded appeal that Obama wasn’t connecting with “hard-working Americans, white Americans”—and that she was. The Obama team hadn’t yet scorched Clinton by charging she had intentionally played on fears of Obama’s assassination, ///
what's your point mikey? politician reacts to circumstances? well I'll go to the foot of our stairs!
Gromit, nice one there about Farage, Can't wait for that one.
