America is a funny country, in many ways. I can't see anyone in Britain even contemplating posting such a nasty thing thing such as this. Was she so stupid that she thought that she could get away with it ?

And yet, Ms Taylor said that she acknowledged her Facebook post could be "interpreted as racist, but in no way was intended to be", and that she was expressing a personal opinion on attractiveness, not the colour of a person's skin.

Unbelievable....she has been sacked, not surprisingly.

These two women were not just ordinary citizens in Clay County, but important people in the community, and nobody should be defending them in any shape or form. They deserve every bit of opprobrium that they will and are getting.

People on the internet are just disgusting that way. It's amazing what (sometimes even a mistaken sense of) anonymity does to some people, they are rude to anyone and everyone they can think of.

The difference here is that the second group are internet trolls, and the first is a holder of public office. Clearly we hold politicians to higher standards of internet behaviour than most people.

Or, at least, I thought that was how it was meant to work. There's an analogy to be drawn here, but somehow I can't quite see it...

JIm...considering that almost 100% of Clay County residents are white, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the condemnation that is happening, isn't so strong closer to home. The KKK are also active in the area.

I read this story this morning.

It's no point in her rowing back with her 'apology' , which i do not believe to be sincere .

In a funny way it might have been better for her to confirm that it is her opinion and she is not going to apologize .

We have come a long way since Rosa Parks , however it's It's sad that there are people who still hold this sort of opinion about others .

I was watching a programme about attitudes to black people in some parts of the US , not too long ago - wasn't very nice .
