Michelle Obama 'ape In Heels' Post Causes Outrage

America is a funny country, in many ways. I can't see anyone in Britain even contemplating posting such a nasty thing thing such as this. Was she so stupid that she thought that she could get away with it ?
And yet, Ms Taylor said that she acknowledged her Facebook post could be "interpreted as racist, but in no way was intended to be", and that she was expressing a personal opinion on attractiveness, not the colour of a person's skin.
Unbelievable....she has been sacked, not surprisingly.

It might be that mikey4444 won't face up to you.
It may be the same situation as andy_hughes expressed a couple of months ago.
At the time, andy said he decided that he wouldn't bother debating with you, because you were constantly contradicting yourself which made it difficult to work out what line you were taking, because it would change so frequently (hope I'm summarising correctly).
Not sure what has happened in the intervening weeks.
However, here - it might be something completely different.
Maybe mikey4444 didn't see your point, or maybe didn't think it was worth diverting the thread.

ag, it’s a permanent affliction.

No you are not. After refusing to answer simple and pertinent questions that have emanated directly from discussion, andy-hughes refuses to speak to me on a fairly regular basis. If he makes excuses for that, that’s up to him. Everyone can read what’s being said. Mikey, similarly, backs himself into corners and has, for some time now, avoided me. Hey ho.

Hmmm...I've been thinking about this...
I'm not answering for mikey4444, but I think he may have simply used one word where he meant another.
The word 'tolerant' used to to be used to describe the status of being 'open and accepting'. However, in reality many people think it means 'putting up with something you don't like'.
Perhaps mikey4444 meant tolerant as in the first definition, rather than the second.
Just my guess.

I don't have netflix I'm afraid. Most of my cultural learnings about America have come from personal experience and/or books. In a country, made up almost entirely from the poor and huddled masses of other places, its amazing that racism can still exist, especially amongst so-called educated people, of which these two women could be said to represent.
We have our own problems regarding racism in Britain, but if anybody over here would to make those comments, they wouldn't last 5 mins. As far as I know the Mayoress is still in post.
Give the Paul Theroux book a go, if have the chance.

I have not 'refused to speak to you' at any time, and certainly not on a fairly regular basis as you put it!
I have declined to debate issues of religion with you [ specifically on topics discussing Islam because of your perceived superior attitude to my opinions, to which I objected.
//If he makes excuses for that, that’s up to him. //
I don't 'make excuses' to anyone, anywhere, ever - so naturally you are incorrect in that observation as well.

So...a good end to a bad day. .... one elegant, and eloquent woman has her honour restored and 2 stupid racist women are out of a job.
What worries me though is this.....if this sort of thing can happen 2 months before Trump is even elected, what on earth is it going to be like next year, when the racism that he has stirred up, has the backing of the resident of the White House ?
