on a Russian celebrity reality skating show, Tatyana Navka and her partner dance a holocaust-themed routine:-

Tasteless in the extreme, or an inspired raising of awareness? and which celebrity or politico might get away with this on a UK primetime Saturday evening reality show?

It's a strange way to 'raise awareness' of the holocaust.
Not a lot of dancing to music was done in the camps I suspect.
there are plenty of "entertainment" holocaust things
Boy in the striped pyjamas
Schindler's list
Bedknobs, I don’t think they are “entertainment” in the same way that an ice skating routine is.
No celebrity would get away with that here. But I doubt if anyone would even think of it
i disagree. How is a hollywood film not entertainment? How is a fictional book not entertainment?

bednobs, would "boy in the striped pyjamas" work as a comedy-musical?
no
life is beautiful had comedy.
Didn't the Russian skaters say the routine was based on or influenced by Life is Beautiful?
La Vita e Bella was a bit controversial because it's got comedy in it, but it's still a powerful film. Prancing around on ice in a stripey costume doing a song from it is another matter
didnt it win an oscar?

Considering that Putin is killing 1000's of innocent people in Syria, by bombing hospitals and schools, is this such bad taste ?

Russian air strikes in Syria took place in October and November, and the death toll was estimated to be 10,340, of which just under half were civilians.

in the event depicted in the ice dance in my OP, a conservative estimate of the death toll is about 571 times greater than the death toll attributed to the recent Russian air strikes. reprehensible though the recent action was, it really isn't in the same league, is it Mikey?
Too camp?
I never meant to imply that its was Mush....I am just trying to keep the issue of the Syrian War Crimes in the news, as it is is a daily occurrence, which goes largely amiss on here.

could I just suggest that if that's your agenda, you start a new thread?

thx
A holocaust-themed skating routine wouldn’t entertain me. It makes me uncomfortable.

Mikey, You tell us on practically a daily basis that hospitals in Syria are being bombed, but as someone observed yesterday, they must have an awful lot of hospitals there. Sorry Mushroom, just saying.
Its a complete mystery to me why a few people here on AB still continue to champion Putin and Russia over its war crimes in Syria !
I would suggest that the only way you draw attention to something as significant as The Holocaust by means of art is that it is absolutely clear what your message is - there is no room for misunderstanding either in the way the message is delivered, of the medium which is used to deliver it.

It appears that this fails on both those counts.
