If you mean Putin, there are very few Russian ground forces in Syria (they're all in Ukraine!) They were going to send a force of Chechens, presumably as a sort of "police force" but the deplyoment leaked out on social media and it was canned.
Assad is relying on his own decimated army, and an assortment of Iranian militias.

The USA said Russia would fail in this very complex situation, Russia (Putin) has succeeded in saving 1000's of lives and showing the gullible how gullible they really are in 'real' life situations.
