Do you really fear being run over by a terrorist, everytime you go to Tesco?
I don't.

/// Further to that, if enough people DO start believing that it is normal to be run down when out Christmas shopping then it will in some part because of articles like this. ///

Nothing better than for us to be alerted of a possible new threat, that of being mowed down while out Christmas shopping.

Good job some of the authorities are taking note and erecting barriers to prevent such things happening.

Would you rather wait until such a thing like what has happened in Germany, happens here in the UK, before we are made aware of this new threat?

/// Normal means everyday. I don't see the difference. ///

That is your problem Gromit.

I normally take a specific route to my local supermarket, but I don't go everyday.
We don't need Hopkins to make us aware of the new threat, we can see it for ourselves on the proper news.
And we don't need her to spread fear further than is necessary. To claim that such attacks are the new normal is scaremongering of the highest order and totally out of proportion to the actual risk.

I don't. ///

No because I don't shop at Tescos, but if I did it could now be a possibility, just like those poor souls who decided to go to the German Christmas Market, did not expect to be 'run over' by a terrorist.
Brilliant article. Spot on.
Normal: the usual, typical, or expected state or condition.

" being mowed down while doing your Christmas shopping is simply now expected""

" being mowed down while doing your Christmas shopping is simply now typical"

Nah, 'normal' is not the truth.

Then just keep your head firmly buried in the sand then Gromit, you do not have to read her column, in fact I should keep away from any news media if I were you, because whether it is the TV or the newspapers (of any particular political persuasion) they can do their own fair share of scaremongering.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

But please explain what you are on about, because I am lost at a loss with what you are trying to say.
The German news media, like the French media after the Paris attacks, try the vox pop approach finding people in the street who say how they will continue with their lives regardless (it makes a better story) but what they can't show are the people who are being cautious and staying at home with their children and of whom there are many.
So whether you Gromit, are unperturbed shopping in your branch of Tesco in the UK, is completely beside the point.

Like being hit by a bolt of lightning, or your airplane dropping out of the sky, if fate makes you the victim, there is nothing you can do about it, and very little point worry about it.
Gromit; //Like being hit by a bolt of lightning,// There's a sign on my golf-course suggesting that, if you get caught in a thunderstorm, it's not the best of ideas to stand under a tree.
