Now I am no Royalist but I do understand the Queen is in a real good position to get a grasp of many things as She can see and hear things I dont have the opportunity to.
No she's not ... The current (lack of) proper dialogue between the two sides is ridiculous - both seem only interested in perpetuating one of two myths 1. All 'leavers' are old, white, poorly educated, racist thickos or 2. All 'remainers' are either self-serving metropolitan elitists or terrorist-appeasing muesli munchers. Obviously neither of the...
The Queen is supposed to be apolitical. She undoubtedly has her own personal opinions, but those should be kept private. When their polotical leaning become know, like Charles does, it is not good for the monarchy.
On a side note, I dislike Americanisms creeping into our culture. Raincheck and such nonsense. So I am not sure why Quentin is dropping such phrases as // speak truth to power //. Awful, awful awful gibberish.
It sickens me to listen to people who honestly believe the Royals do nothing but sit on their backsides. For a 90 year old woman she probably does more in a day than most people do and the younger ones all have jobs. No not your typical family, but in a good way!

Obviously neither of the above is true - there are good, honest, thoughtful people in both camps - but you'd be hard pushed to find anyone from either side admitting that about the other.

//The Queen is supposed to be apolitical.//
She is publically completely so, but she as a highly educated woman and has her views on most things. The problem for her is that every word she utters is grabbed upon and analysed for hidden meaning.
At a private dinner before the referendum, it was 'leaked' be someone present that she had asked the guests, "can someone give me 3 reasons why Britain should remain in the EU?"
That seems to have been a sensible question for any intelligent person to have asked.
People using the Queens private feelings to further their own political causes, are doing the monarchy no favours.
Ymbs very leading question, hides a truth. There will be people who will think the Queen IS a swivel eyed loon, and that is not good for her or the job.
The Queens ancestors are mainly European, she has many many relatives who are sovereigns in European countries. Why on Earth does anyone think she would be against the European Union?
Ann, if you want a thread on the salaries of the Royals please start your own.
Gromit, I was not intending a leading question, just that on here I have been labelled may times like that for my beliefs so I was interested to see if same people extended their thoughtful labels to her Maj.
And yes, have to agree on the Americanisms. I hate them with a passion.
mushroom, what else do you think she does that gives her access to what her people think? She hangs round with family, courtiers and politicians (whom she may understand very well). Do you think when she opens the occasional supermarket she carries out a poll of its shoppers to get their opinion on Brexit?
She will no doubt have her own opinion, and she's entitled to it; but to claim as that lickspittle argument does that she "understands her people" is nonsense.
