Quite a few people have come to know the new identities (and whereabouts) of Thompson and Venables, Mikey. There have been no significant vigilante or revenge attacks on either. This is less surprising of Venables as he has spent much of the time since being released from his original sentence for murder (which was a ludicrously short eight years) back in custody for various offences including affray and downloading child pornography. He had a relationship with a woman who had a five year old child. The woman was not aware of his true identity. He was last released in 2013 but not before, in 2011, being given yet another new identity as his first new one had become compromised. This is scarcely surprising as Venables had a habit of revealing his true identity when high on drugs or drink.
The balance between protecting the perpetrators of heinous crimes and looking out for the rest of us has become hopelessly skewed. The State has a duty to protect all its citizens from violent crime. In protecting one of them – a convicted murderer – the safety of many others is compromised (as was, perhaps, the girlfriend of Venables who had the young child). Personally I would err on the side of protecting the rest of us rather than one or two convicted murderers.

/// I'm not sure how this speculation keeps us from being totally confused. It seems to add to it to me. ///
Some of us take into consideration all eventualities so as to question and in turn try to come to some reasoning, out of such crazy sadistic happenings.
Don't try and tell me that I am on my own, I'd hazard a guess that this case is being dissected and discussed around most dinner tables, clubs and pubs throughout the country.
If one is brave enough to admit it, most of us are armchair and keyboard Sherlock Holmes.

It is an headline news item, why shouldn't a thread be introduced on it ... //
Indeed - but it is the manner in which you have introduced it that is causing the responses you are receiving - specifically, you ask a question to which no-one can know the answer. People can speculate, but as I have opined, that is as ghoulish as it is futile.
// ... and before you criticise my headline, it is more in keeping to both NEWS and also THE NEWS SECTION, than you asking for photos of bikini clad celebrities ... //
Firstly, that was a satirical question, as some people on here understood, unsurprisingly, I don't think you were one of them.
Secondly, it was from a newspaper - the key is in the 'news' bit there ...
And thirdly - I really don't think you want to be getting into an argument with anyone on here about unsuitable headlines - not given your long history - that's an argument you will lose very quickly indeed!!

You really must explain how that works, I am sure I am not alone in thinking that if I sat here all day, I could not 'come to some reasoning' about why anyone visits violence on anyone, anywhere, at any time.

AOG...you asked the following question :::::
"Could Anyone Explain Why A 15 Year Old Girl Would Allegedly Brutally Stab A Poor Innocent 7 Year Old"
And most of us have said that we can't possibly tell because we know nothing about the case at all.
I am not sure what significance the identity of the girl arrested is though ?
We shall all know more when the case comes up in Court....I suggest to everybody that any more speculation at this stage is daft.

There have been any amount of cases discussed on here in the past. There is no law against speculating and having a discussion of course but there is minimal value to be had.
Only those who serve on juries can hear all the evidence which, at the end of the day, is the only way which assessments of evidence can be made.
As for Sherlock, many comments on here are more worthy of Shylock.

So in your opinion everyone who speculates is ghoulish?
That says more about you than any of the vast number of speculators.
/// Secondly, it was from a newspaper - the key is in the 'news' bit there ... ///
There are many topics, promotions and competitions etc. that are published in newspapers but that does not mean that they are 'NEWS'
/// And thirdly - I really don't think you want to be getting into an argument with anyone on here about unsuitable headlines - not given your long history - that's an argument you will lose very quickly indeed!! ///
Argument??????? bring it on, the only ones who criticise my headlines are the liberal left who criticise anything that highlights anything that they would rather be seen censored or swept under the carpet.
Being set on by the pack doesn't necessarily mean one has lost the argument, some like yourself pick up your ball and go scampering for home.

lol! and that's not a snipe at AOG is it?
Yes I could ask 'who could have done such a thing?' casually to another person at a bus stop. It does not mean the person I spoke to would think I was wanting to start a murder investigation, they would think it was a simple reflection on what is the world coming to.

I can always rely on you to prove my 'So' rule AOG - yet again you have entirely missed my point.
Is everyone who speculates ghoulish? Not really - I am speculating about my wife's football team's prospects on Saturday.
But does everyone who speculates over the death of a child based on absolutely no facts whatsoever? Yes, absolutely they are!

Now who's taking things personally! You really do rate yourself highly if you think an entire political spectrum of AB'ers is waiting to censor you! Do get over yourself!

'Set on by the pack????? Do you read what you write before you submit it?????
You have posted a pointless ghoulish cul-de-sac of an OP and I have called you out on it.
If you don't want to be 'attacked' as you amusingly put it, consider the point and appropriateness of what you post first - you can save yourself getting all upset.

So for the next couple of years or so, we now ignore this piece of news, that's fine by me but I thought it should have been discussed on AB.
What should we speculate on next mikey the demise of the Labour party perhaps or what kind of President Trump will make, or should we do the same as this case and stop speculating until the next election or after Trump has been in power for a years or so?
