"In this day and age why was a seven year old walking home alone from a primary school, which is half a mile from her home? "
maybe she walked home with a few other children this area in york is a very safe area and of course no one expects this to happen here, i doubt very much if the parents would allow her to walk home without some other parents keeping an eye on her.
we shall see when the court is held
RIP to the little girl ,
True, AOG, but you've asked a question to encourage parent bashing without the facts.
We know absolutely nothing about this case, so I couldn't possibly hazard a guess. Poor little kid.
Ive just seen two separate posts on FB saying the 15 year old was her step sister?? Surely not dear god.
Jealousy, entitlement and a diet of actions with no real consequences via sundry rubbish TV shows may have been involved.
Or maybe she didn't like Mondays.
None of it matters now, the wee lass is dead.
Please stop speculating about the death of this wee girl, or pass on gossip from social media sites, are you all so bored you can't wait until the true details are released .?
Smow I just read online that there is a stepsister of that age. How awful for the family.
“Who knows, we must wait until details are released.”

“…you can't wait until the true details are released .?”

You might have to hold your breath. There is an increasing movement in the UK to anonymise child and youth crime (especially that of the more serious variety). The usual blanket anonymity granted to those under 18 who are involved in court proceedings is being enhanced by “lifelong anonymity” accompanied by identity changes. Although we may find out some of the details of this horrendous incident I would wager that the identity of the perpetrator is never made known. In order to protect her identity no details of her family will be released and so no information which may provide an explanation for her actions (broken home, mother a prostitute, step-father who abused her a drug dealer, uncle nailed her head to the floor on Sunday mornings, etc.) is unlikely to be forthcoming.

The deal between the people and the State is that the people relinquish the right to take action against their transgressors and allow the State to do so on their behalf. This can hardly be feted with confidence if (a) we don’t know who these serious perpetrators are and (b) they get a new identity when they are “rehabilitated” (often in an unrealistically short time) to live among the rest if us.
NJ............I am reminded of the adults that would have torn the murderers of Jamie Bulger apart, had it not been for the anonymity granted.

/// I don't speculate, and I don't find that reading others' speculations gives me the slightest insight into why dreadful things happen. ///

Who suggested that you do, don't take things so personal.

I was just pointing out that speculations take place all the time on AB:

"Did he die of a drugs overdose"?

"Had she an history of mental illness" Etc, Etc.
NJ, I doubt what you say in this instance - the news is out certainly in the local area and that has started to spread already.

That is a complete lie and well you know it, why do you constantly try to read something that is not there, in almost every post I enter?

You asked a question, I answered it.

As the on-going post illustrate, speculation is as ghoulish as it is pointless.

What sort of response did you think you'd get to a Question like this anyway?

The obvious response is 'No' - with nothing added, there is no point.
Lol...don't be so paranoid!

Then feel free to elaborate - what actually is there?

As I have asked - what response did you expect or hope for?
AOG, I have a feeling that AH may, as i did, have been puzzled by your comment 'that is what keeps us from being totally confused as to why such dreadful things are now becoming almost common place.'

I'm not sure how this speculation keeps us from being totally confused. It seems to add to it to me.
I would imagine Mamya is right - news will have started to spread locally which was inevitable. Whatever the truth is it's just an appalling thing to have happened.

It is an headline news item, why shouldn't a thread be introduced on it, and before you criticise my headline, it is more in keeping to both NEWS and also THE NEWS SECTION, than you asking for photos of bikini clad celebrities.
// I will withhold my thoughts on this until the police issue statements//

well you will wait for a long time - the child has been charged and so we will learn nothing until the trial. The trial date has not been set and in the good old days was within 60d but is usually now much longer
