I was astonished relatively recently to learn that there are Scots, Irish and Welsh people who claim to be offended by the words Jock, Paddy and Taffy. What utter nonsense such offence would be, if true! Each of these is just a variant of a common name...Jock from John/Jack...Paddy from Patrick...and Taffy from David. What's to be offended at?
It's the way of the world sadly Quizmonster.
What's the slang name for an English person?
Pom? pommy? Or is it just Australians who call us that?
Limey ?

divebuddy! Mama mia! :)
Doesn't Pom and Limey refer to British people, not just English?

We have Scottish, Welsh and Irish people on AB.

Let us know. What do you call the English?
The Scots call us Sassenachs ...
Ah you're right yes.
Tans :-)
I've never heard any of those terms in the workplace - limey, pom, sassenach but I've never worked in a place where the English are in the minority.

Sassenach refers to Scottish lowlanders as well as the English.

Soft southern......something, on occasion. Especially when there's 'significant accumulations of up to 5cm of snow'.
Worra larf. :)
hc the lowlanders said in the right tone is used as an insult too
Let's call it the 'E' word :-)
Eyetie. Just a wordplay of 'Eye'talians. I wonder what they call us? And no, whatever it is, I don't demand that they ban it
AOG - //Did you go home each day from school, crying to your parents, because the teachers called you Hughes? //

No, but when I left school I made a decision that I would never answer to it again - which is why I don't.
But you do Andy.
