The negative side is that it was unnecessary. I agree it was a perfectly acceptable option for any citizen to exercise (though I agree with earlier sentiments that it was unlikely to be entertained from anybody without the necessary connections) . So , we have those who harped on about taking back power from the undemocratic European state and not being subject to it's laws .
Under our constitution any individual can exercise the right to have a decision like this , to exit the EU , and to trigger article 50 , done by our parliament .
Yet when someone exercises that right under our own constitution / law , they are then nastily vilified by those same people .

^^ For around the 20th time no one has derailed the democratic will of the people!!!!!!!
All that has been done is to make sure that this decision has to be fully debated by parliment before it is passed! It does NOT stop us leaving the EU that is still on track. It just means it will not be pushed through without any debate on the details.
