Anne:
As I mentioned above, I've known a few journalists over the years. One of them had worked in the PR department at 10 Downing Street. (He was one of the tutors on my journalism course). Based upon what he told us, I can assure you that it's standard practice for one politician's PR people to suggest questions that that the press might like to ask other politicians, whether that be in domestic politics or international relations ;-)
Well done to Laura Kuenssberg ? As others have said, what a pity that he didn't even attempt to answer the question.

Simple questions that needed an answer. Thank God for the BBC !
Absolutely. Chris, LK asked the question Theresa May couldn't .!ll
Some of the awful comments on here about Laura Kuenssberg are jaw-droppingly ignorant.

If May hadn't been there, Trump would have just waved his little hands about in the air, in his normal fashion and dismissed the question altogether.
I thought the question was quite fair.

The elephant in the room is that Trump is extremely controversial in the UK, and she just asked him what his response was. Furthermore, she did not misquote him or attribute anything to him inaccurately.

As usual, Trumpkins being extremely hypersensitive about their golden Donald.
// Do any of us actually believe Theresa May was as surprised as Donald Trump at the question by Laura Kuenzberg.?//

not sure - the americans dont do irony at the best of times
and this is the worst of times..... ( apolz to CD)
Kromo....the difficulty with Trumps few friends here on AB is that they have become mesmerised. They choose to ignore all the awful things he said during the election campaign because its just to inconvenient to accept the truth about him.

When someone intelligent questions him about all those things that he has said, they immediately run to his defence.

There are none so blind as those that won't see, and none to deaf as those that refuse to listen.

And have you noticed that those of us that are not fans of Trump, are "leftie"
// As usual, Trumpkins being extremely hypersensitive about their golden Donald.//

aaah divebuddy as a trumpkin .....( they both support the second amendment and torture )

is it the idea that if one prevents someone from being ridiculed
then he wont look ridiculous ?

I had this with my ex employer ( the one I accused of perjury ) - you arent treating me with the respect due to an employer ( you know like ignoring perjury if it is your employer and that sort of respect thing ) and Isaid
that is because you arent behaving like an employer ....

respect for a Prez is two way channel - he has to behave like one ....
//It's the duty of any journalist to act as 'devil's advocate'//
Maybe on a tv chat show, but it was the wrong time and the wrong place to push her usual BBC left liberal agenda.
She was an embarrassment to Britain.
anneasquith at 08:58 seems to be privy to the conversations between Mrs May and Trump. Perhaps she'd care to expand.
Trump is to be applauded for inviting 'ordinary people' into the White Gouse and Ms Kuennssberg is also to be applauded for asking that question.
What a shame that some people think the press should cower to people in power.
Khandro....rubbish.

She asks some very simple questions, that other journalists have attempted to ask in the past. She asked him to explain statements that he had made, many times in the past, and yet to you, Laura Kuenssberg was "pushing her usual BBC left liberal agenda"

What drivel !

Would you have been happier if she had behaved like a toady and asked him some nice easy questions ?

I am not remotely embarrassed by her, in fact we think we should be proud of her.
Naomi, read Chris's post, explains my point much better.
Yes, not the smartest move by a UK journalist, but she certainly has the "right" to ask the question and i thought that the response by the president neutralised the moment with a spot of humour.
anneasquith, I've read his post. It doesn't explain your claim to know what President Trump and Mrs May discussed.
That response being to refuse to answer the question then Sqad !

(morning by the way)
mikey......exactly....a Politician's prerogative, of all political persuasions.

Morning...mikey.
I watched the press conference on the news and Theresa May said that she had discussed the matter of torture with Donald Trump
^^^^ for Naomi.
And the rest Danny?
