JC is going up in my estimations all the time. Don't like his politics at all but he's a thoroughly decent chap. He sees where many cannot that Parliament must implement the democratic will of the majority. Thanks Jezza.

Looks like that front bench will be pretty empty soon. Just tom and jerry left.
well done Jezza for thinking or saying a thing that 3T approves

I am not sure that it is that well done to be honest

// JC is going up in my estimation all the time.//
breathless gooey prose
sugary mtaphors causing nausea in all that read it

would Jezza echo Groucho Marx - "I would never be a member of a club that elected me" ?

Had Corbyn not voted against Labour more than 600 times, his three-line whip and threat to dismiss those who failed to follow it, might have been reasonable.
I'm worried about 3T. I'm expecting him to convert to Islam any minute.
I voted out, so want out. However well done the London Labour MP's willing to vote against as it is clear from the London results, they are acting for constituents. Respect.
The idea of Corbyn imposing a whip on MPs is hilarious.
Can you bear to extend your congratulations to Ms Diane Abbott as well TTT?
There's an awful lot of difference between rebelling from the back benches and rebelling from the front benches..

ali akbar, JD

What's she done ladybirder?
She has agreed with her boss and will not vote against Brexit. I refrained from using the terms 'two-faced' and 'hypocritical'.
From your like TTT;-)

// His shadow home secretary Diane Abbott has said that, since a UK-wide referendum with a 72% turnout returned a vote in favour of withdrawing from the EU, it would "be very undermining of democracy" for MPs to vote against beginning the formal process of leaving. \\

Wow!

well in that case congrats to her for doing the decent thing.
I dare say for some of those Shadow Cabinet members it's just the excuse they need :-)
"Ms Stevens quit on Friday saying Brexit was a "terrible mistake"."

Very strange. Ms Stevens was one of the MPs who voted (by a ratio of six to one) to grant the electorate its referendum. Now the result is evident she believes it is a terrible mistake. So, OK to let the little people have a vote - provided, of course, they vote "correctly" !
Don't forget that JC has a hidden agenda. He's always been anti-EU and this gives him an ideal way of achieving his goal under the guise of 'democracy'.
"There's an awful lot of difference between rebelling from the back benches and rebelling from the front benches.." true but I seen a claim from 2015 that up to that point, Corbyn had voted against Labour more often than David Cameron.
MPs of all parties should vote how their constituents voted in the referendum.
They are in Parliament to represent their electorate, so if they voted Leave, they should vote to invoke, and if they voted to remain, they should vote not to invoke.

Putting the 3 line whip on MPs, who represent areas that voted to remain is barmy. The Labour Party should have a free vote, but be obliged to vote the same way as their voters.

Corbyn couldn't lead a pack of Girl Guides, and this is another example of his poor decision making.
"MPs of all parties should vote how their constituents voted in the referendum."

Whether that's right or not (and I happen to believe it's not but it doesn't really matter) there may be a small difficulty. The results of the referendum were not declared on a constituency basis. Any declaration that a particular constituency voted one way or the other is based only an a guestimate.
Jo Stevens constituents voted 60% to Remain. So she should be free to properly represent the views of her electorate. Making her support Brexit when her constituents are against it is undemocratic, and Corbyn is a fool for trying to make his MPs support something that some Labour voters disagreed with.
NJ,
In most constituencies it is clear cut. Cadiff voted Remain, so Cardiff MPs should adhere to that.
My own area, represented by 3 Labour MPs voted to Leave, so they should support the invoking vote. But all 3 of those MPs are Remainers and may vote against their constituents wishes, which is wrong.

Leave won the Referendum, so if MPs in those areas vote the same as their constituents, then invoke will win. Two thirds of MPs were Remainers, but Leave won, so it is MPs not properly representing their electorate that may cause a bill a problem.
