AOG - //Does it make one a bigot if one does not choose to live next door to a travellers site, or to have one at the bottom of one's garden? Or does it only work if Muslims are concerned? // Choosing to live, or not to live, anywhere does not make someone a bigot. A bigot is intolerant towards an entire grouping of people. You can have reservations about the behaviour...

vortex- // Andy Hughes - I would agree but my main bone of contention is the idea which sees a sudden proliferation into a small area such as this one (pop.4000+), and the locals are just expected to get on with it.
Integration doesn't work like that. //
Again, no argument.
My concern is that people whose attitudes are bigoted and homophobic are willing to use legitimate concerns by the population to peddle their own unpleasant views under the guise of sympathising and offering a 'solution' - a word which has chilling connotations of its own.

Well I have had a good look at a number of reports on this matter including the one in the link provided by Vortex, and surprise, surprise. The only report that gives it a "whites" only spin, and is then eagerly endorsed by our OP, is by..............you are ahead of me aren't you............The BBC. Once again failing in it's remit to report the news and setting out to cause unrest by making the news in it's own devious and divisive style.

vortex - //In my short time on here I've seen several threads disappear.
Such a waste of people's time and very frustrating. //
It's the price we sometimes pay for being individuals with strong opinions, and an occasional tendency to get tied up in side-arguments.
Usually threads are pulled if they are persistently off the track of the OP, and reduced to squabbling among posters, which obviously benefits no-one.
Fortunately, it is not all that common, so hopefully it won't put you off reading and posting.

It is going to be interesting to see if the mayor's stance is illegal.
A clash with the judiciary?
Now, where have I heard that recently? ;-)

I am sure there are plenty of examples such as these, all seem to have slipped under the usually very sensitive BBC radar.
