Whilst I certainly think, with his past convictions, that he's potentially very dangerous, my understanding is that the judge was also mindful of the fact that he would likely forego his psychiatric treatment if he went to prison. We clearly have a choice then since he couldn't be incarcerated for very long for such a crime, do we send him to prison where his mental state will deteriorate or do we try to 'fix' him and make sure that he's not a threat any longer. It's repellent but I'd rather he had treatment since he's ill than didn't and progressed his crimes because he lacked help. That serves no-one.

It was racist - I have not suggested otherwise, but just because people with mental issues are racist in the street doesn't excuse people being racist on here - why, did you think somehow it did?

By '...the other way around ... ' I assume you mean a white man attacking an Asian baby? If the circumstances were identical, then a white man would not go to prison either.

As I have pointed out, this man was not jailed based on his need for psychiatric treatment, not the colour of his skin.

Ive had my name mentioned enough times in my local newspaper to know that journalists are always economical with the truth. As someone who has had (simultaneously) both mental health issues and criminal law issues and reading in the press only what the journalist chose to report, I can no longer believe anything I read in the rags. It was, and I don't recall saying that he should not have gone to jail.

But if he was found to be suffering from a psychiatric illness, and incarceration would have exacerbated it, then I would have been in favour of him not being sent to jail. But that was not the circumstance there, but it is here.

For the third time, this man did not avoid prison because of the colour of his skin.
