As an ex-teacher I know exactly why, and TTT is spot on.

Strewth !
I'm not playing silly games. You are.
The reason is very far from obvious to me and my Mum was a teacher her entire life , several of my family are teachers now but still no clue!
O' dear do I need to tell the daughter she is wasting her time?
Well I'm going to bed. It's a shame you don't tell us and then it could develop into an interesting discussion. There are several ex teachers on this thread.
Yes, Talbot. Tell her to stop before she starts. There is some terrible, mysterious thing which befalls teachers which most of us are not privy to.
Question Author
well talbot, you can or wait until the first scum parent punches her in the face for chastising little Ocean-Moonbeam if you like but I'd say get out now.
I'm an ex secondary teacher - would never go back.
I'm off too.

OK, then, in one word, 'discipline' (or the lack of it).
Yep I can see that side
So am I and neither would I and yes lack of tools to deal with discipline would be the main reason.
Some teachers in some schools will have left through such disruption but to lay the blame fully there, is accusing everyone on here of a certain age of being a lousy parent, as their children are the parents you are slamming.

Wouldn't Ocean-Moonbeam's parents be lefty Tibetan peace porridge loving pacifists?
Question Author
even more reason that they must be right and immune from any sort of discipline.
If I were still fit enough to work I would much rather go into the lions' cage at the zoo as a trainer than go back to a classroom.
Question Author
it's amazing how many on here seem to know more than an ex teacher like yourself JD.
Most of the pupils were well behaved but it was the continuous disruption of the same minority of pupils and the feeling of being concerned for your own safety that really takes the edge off being able to do your job properly. (Although it wasn't just the discipline that made me leave.)
There's at least 2 other ex-teachers on this thread...do their views not count?
Question Author
yes, indeed, lets hear them.
