Influence is likely to be diminished when the proposed amendment is nonsensical.

If the people don't like the arrangement it will still have been the one negotiated and one either has to accept the agreements going forward or fail to implement the democratic will of the people. Or, of course, just walk away, which would be less useful.

It's simply another remainer ploy to try to get their own way by telling the EU to demand unacceptable terms in order to get the exit scuppered. Who does he think he's kidding ? Obviously seems to have lost it in his old age.

About time the House of Lords became an electable body, this just another in a long line of things where the Lords try to pervert the will of the people with their own ideals.

Under the "Salisbury Convention", the upper house does not block legislation for which parties have won a mandate at the polls, so I'm not sure why they're being given a crack here. Perhaps one of our more learned AB members could explain?

Zacs....they are allowed to make amendments, which they do all the time. Heseltine can say what he likes but this Bill will go through largely unchanged.
