Talbot - Gromit is not on trial here - if he wishes to defend Mr Khan, or anyone else, that is his prerogative, and hectoring posts from you are not going to alter that.

In the context of what Trump said about Gonzalo Curiel, he's wrong and so are you.

Trump suggested that Curiel was giving unfair rulings against him because he is Mexican.

However, as a prosecutor in the late 1990s Curiel, went after Mexican drug cartels, making him a target for assassination by a Tijuana drug lord.

That means that he is the enemy of the very people that Trump wants to keep out of America.

To use the reductive position that because Curiel is Mexican he cannot do his job is fatuous, reductive and racist.
So you think he is defending him too, andy.

Glad we agree.
Talbot - //So you think he is defending him too, andy.

Glad we agree. //

And the 'So' rule strikes again - third time today.

I have no opinion on whether or not Gromit is defending Mr Khan - another of your never-ending incorrect assumptions on what you think I think - based on your over-active imagination.

My point is that your hectoring tone is more appropriate in an episode of Suits than it is on here.
Talbot,
I acknowledged it was the wrong phrase in my post at 14:46.

I am not defending the phrase, I am attacking the inference that some of you have put on it. He did not mean they are subserviant and excessively eager to please. That was not his point, but that is what he said by not finding the correct term.

He was talking unscripted and he didn't use the correct phrase. And apologised the next day.
As did Ron Atkinson ... but it was apparent to me that Ron was no stranger to using the N word.

but perhaps he hears it because he himself has been accused of being an Uncle Tom?

You don't that I can tell by the '?' so you have offered it as a defence of what Khan said.
Talbot - //As did Ron Atkinson ... but it was apparent to me that Ron was no stranger to using the N word. //

How was it 'apparent'?

In my view, you really need to stop leaping to conclusions based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.
Gromit, he was talking about Muslims. Listen to him - and then google 'sadiq khan uncle tom' and look at all the news outlets that carried the story.

I just googled Elvis is alive and got over 10m hits.
But a_h (your post at 16.06) YOU hector people on here who defend Trump and that is their prerogative too and nothing is going to alter that !
they were the wrong words. Which is why he instantly apologised.

You think Khan DELIBERATELY attacked his own voter base by saying they are subserviant to him. Why would he do that on purpose? He did say it, but it was an error rather than a racist slur which was meant.
RandyMarsh, //I just googled Elvis is alive and got over 10m hits.//

I don’t think respected media outlets carry stories like that, but not to worry - you stick with Elvis. ;o)

Gromit, he said it and he was obliged to apologise for saying it.
// Gromit, he said it and he was obliged to apologise for saying it. //

Yep, I have been saying that for the last 3 hours.

Do you believe he deliberately meant it as a racial slur against his own followers, because that is how you introduced.
andy, your view means absolutely zero to me.

''In my view, you really need to stop leaping to conclusions based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.''

If there was ''no evidence whatsoever'' I wouldn't have even been able to put forward my opinion would I?

Think about it for a while ...
32.7 million for Donald Trump is a racist.
376,000 for Sadiq Khan is a racist.
861,000 for the queen is a lizard. Lol.

Gromit, I think he was denigrating Muslims who he perceives to make the right noises. That’s what Uncle Toms do.
// I think he was denigrating Muslims who he perceives to make the right noises. //

Right oh. I don't think he meant that at all.

Glad that's cleared up.
// The full quotation (which The Daily Mail ‘buries’ about two-thirds into the article) is: ‘I wish we only spoke to people who agree with us. I can tell you that I’ve spent the last months in this job speaking to all sorts of people. Not just leaders, not just organisations but ordinary rank and file citizens of Muslim faith and that’s what good government is about, it’s about engaging with all stakeholders. You can talk about articles in the newspapers about what an organisation might get but the point is you can’t just pick and choose who you speak to, you can’t just speak to Uncle Toms.’ //
Gromit, //I don't think he meant that at all. //

I do ... and there we differ.
Naomi,

What was his motive for abusing his own electorate?

Rhat doesn't make sense.
