Police failed to search the waste site near to where he was last seen because they said the bin lorry payload was only 15 kilograms (33 lb).

I always thought that was a mistake. Why would a bin lorry make a 26 mile round trip if it was empty?

Now, 6 months later, the Police now say it wasn't empty after all.

Has this investigation been a farce from the start?

^I'm assuming the police got the weight of the truck from company records rather than the driver.
Was his phone ever found??
naomi..you are right..would he be the chappie responsible for weigh in and records perhaps ?
I don't think so, Smow, they found a phone but I don't think it was confirmed it was his.
NO, but its likely it will be, when his remains are located, on the landfill site.

This investigation has been badly mishandled by the Police from day one, but current developments would seem to point to the search of the landfill site to be the best way forward yet.
The police appear to have been given inaccurate information regarding the weight of the lorry initially so their failure to search the site is understandable. They can only go on the evidence they have.
like looking for a needle in a haystack !
All a bit of a mess isn't it. Whatever happened I hope he was very drunk and didn't suffer.
Yes Minty, I agree, but if the Police had started looking at the landfill site months ago, that haystack would have been considerably smaller and much easier to search.

His Mum has been asking for the site to be searched for ages, poor woman.
Given what they were told about the weight of the lorry, why would they search the site?
Because it's the only logical explanation.
the lorry is the only reasonable answer to how he disappeared
Well said Ummm. But perhaps the Police don't work logically.

They took the word of whoever falsified the weight records, and stuck their heads in the sand....bloody shocking.
But initially it wasn't a logical explanation. The bin lorry, according to the weight given, couldn't possibly have contained a man. I can understand how their enquiries moved in other directions.
The area has CCTV. He was seen going into the service area and never seen coming out. I would have thought the police would have investigated the trucks records instead of taking their word for it.

As I say in my original question, why would the bin lorry make the 26 mile round trip if it was virtually empty?
They tracked the phone to the tip, so it seems incredible they didn't search for it.
Bit random but is it possible that the bin lorry driver reversed into the bin area and knocked Corrie down, killing him and panicked and put him in the back of the lorry? Hence why he lied about the weight?
Mikey, it's grossly unfair to say they stuck their heads in the sand. They haven't. They've been searching since he went missing - and they can only go by the information available to them. They clearly investigated the lorry and were given inaccurate information. Psychic they are not!
Naomi - you have a lot of confidence in the police then.
Ummm...well said again at 09:13
