What a lucky escape we had in 1990 when Major became PM rather than this treacherous popinjay.

It was another Tory vanity project, of course it was absorbed by Tony Blair - a closet Tory and as vainglorious a politician as ever drew breath. He couldn't resist having his name all over it, until it deflated like a bad soufflé, at which point he quietly stopped boasting about it.

the dome was a first-class piece of legacy planning, which the Olympics people should perhaps have taken note of. It was built to house an exhibition - whose contents Heseltine did not choose. Since then it's become the most popular music venue in the world - eight years in a row now. People even want to walk on the roof

I always liked Heseltine. He changed my opinion about Trident. I find he's one of the few politicians who knows how to make an argument rather than just playing to a crowd. I respect that, even if I don't always agree with him, and I think we need more of that.
He's also one of the few politicians (or, indeed, people) who understands that there is a difference between being popular and being right - and that it's possible to be one and not the other.
Incidentally, I had no idea whatsoever that the Milennium Dome was his idea, and that just makes me a bigger fan! I was one of the schoolkids who was taken there when it was briefly open and I was about 10. I still remember it really vividly, and it was a great experience. So I guess now I have him to thank for that, too!

Do what I have chosen to do and that is to ignore him.
No it is not rude to do so, it is the sensible thing to do. //
Not really, because as you are aware, I don't ignore you, it's childish and pointless, and it simply leaves you seething with impotent fury because your self-imposed silence prevents you from debating the points I make, even though you are dying to chip in.

See what I mean Naomi, the pure arrogance of the fellow. //
I find your tendency to slip into Elizabethan English when you are cross is most amusing.
Come on, let's be adults and exchange views and opinions. We don't have to agree, but at least we can have a discussion, it's the mature thing to do.

For this time only I will address what you have just said.
Exchanging views with you, is not a discussion simply because of your in built attitude, it turns into a swabble unless one agrees with you.
Also the reason that I decided to no longer join you in debate, was because on my last exchange with you, you constantly inferred that I was racist, and although I challenged you about it and also reported you, it was my challenge that was removed, and not your persistent incinerations.
So taking this on-board, I then decided to no longer join you in debate.

Thank you - I appreciate that courtesy.

I am sure that accusation could be equally levelled at yourself, and by many regulars on here with views they wish to offer and defend. I would dispute the use of the term 'squabble' - I prefer to think we discuss and debate.

As I have said before when you have levelled this accusation, I don't do 'inferences' - if I thought you were a racist, I would have said so, I don't which is why I didn't.
As far as your reporting of my post, and your post being removed and mine left in place, that is something we cannot discuss as you know, but I would remind you, and anyone else who wonders - I am not permitted to remove posts that refer to me personally, so if someone else deleted your post and left mine, that was an editorial decision either made by, or upheld by The Editor, to whom you should address your issues. I do not feel it reasonable to hold me responsible for the actions of others in terms of editing.

I am sorry to read that, and of course, my offer remains open.

On about three different occasions before, I have been encouraged to join you once again back into a civil minded debate, due to the type of gentlemanly attitude that you are showing now.
But as always, once we come back together you swiftly revert back to your old ways.
The sad fact is that you will never change Andy, you just can't help yourself, as I have witnessed by other ABer's exchanges with you.
So with this in mind and for the sake of others and the site, it is for the best, to no longer join you in debate.
