Thanks to the Limp dums we have fixed term parliaments so it's very difficult to have an election early even if the PM wanted it. So surely it's a waste of air time.

NJ there is a wee bit more information about the Act. Following a no confidence vote, an election can be called as long as fourteen days have elapsed without a subsequent confidence motion having been passed.
