emmie; //do they have the death penalty in Turkey?//
'Law 5218 of 14 July 2004 abolished the death penalty for all times. Turkey ratified Protocol No. 13 to the European Convention on Human Rights, overseen by the Council of Europe, in February 2006.'
After the failed 2016 coup d'état, some politicians are talking about restoring the death penalty and if Erdogan gets his way to have absolute power through this election it doesn't bode well for the 10,000 officers, teachers and journalists etc. he has locked up from the failed coup of last summer . He had to release thousands of common criminals back into society because there wasn't enough jail space to house them.
They are according to reports already suffering appalling conditions being 'raped, tortured and hog-tied', probably many have already disappeared.
