Although I agree with the idea that not everyone is generically the same as terrorists or women haters etc. Normal people going about their normal business are just the same over the world over.

Wow, I have got a female friend who is planning to cycle alone to Japan next year calling in to a few different countries to see a friends on the way, one of whom is in Afghanistan. I'm already worrying about her and she hasn't even left yet so thanks for posting the link.
I've read a couple of autobiographies by women who have cycled solo across the world. Being the unadventurous type I am full of admiration for them and have been cheered at the support they got from strangers in every country - and the way they handled the bad bits of the journey.
mikey i expect she wasn't the only woman to go across hostile terrain. After all women served as nurses, VAD's in France and Belgium during WW1. And flew aircraft across the country during WW2.
