Mrs May was given plenty of opportunity to say if she would guarantee that the triple lock on State Pensions would continue, but she refused to say yes or no !

Surely, with this Election, which she has called, so close, she would know if this guarantee is to continue or not........a simple question, that needed a simple answer, not the lot of waffle that we saw today !

Some people on here have belittled the difference as a few pence, but then gone on to say how many billions it will cost the tax payers. You would do well too keep an eye on this, as the issue isn't going to go away any time soon. Mrs May must either put up or shut up.
Without a credible opposition Mrs May can do what she likes. Time your party got its house in order and gave her something to be 'frit' about.
....and that^ is not likely to happen any time soon. 'Frit' she ain't!
Agreed Zacs, this country very much needs a credible opposition for domestic policies.

Zacs....if she goes back on her Parties promise over the triple lock, the whole country will be her opposition....just wait and see !
(Zacs takes screen shot of conversation for June 9th).
OK Zacs.

Appros nothing to do with this thread: in order to post this I have been sent back to 'this site is not responding - go to your home page and reload' and quite frankly I am fed up with the current difficulties of posting on here. I could not respond to posts referring to one of mine the other evening and people must think I don't care/won't respond. Definitely cheesed off Ed. :(
As has been asked, what is Labour's policy on this? I think we should be told as they may well be the next government(chortle, chortle!)
The manifesto has not been released and is still in discussion so why would Mrs May stand up and say something?

One method of testing public reaction is to 'release' an idea and see where it goes and base your plan on that. Of course this leads to people like Mickey grasping at straws and calling decision U-turns etc.

Anyway I would hope it is not just one person writing a manifesto!

ymb....we will have to see if she will keep her word on this issue, and also the one about not increasing income tax, VAT and NICs ! ( she already broke that last one, just a few short weeks ago ! )
Mikey, if I was you I'd start looking forward to Tory rule in Wales! "frit" she ain't, your useless shower wouldn't "frit" the limp dums me old china!
Mikey, all those 20pences add up. That's how your 20p can become billions if not kept in check. So the amount isn't trifling but huge.

Basic economics that the Labour Party seem to be out of touch with. Oh sorry forgot they are going to get Wonga loans to pay for it and do a runner when we go bankrupt.
I'd not say it was a very generous arrangement. It was introduced after years of it falling behind. Even the more controversial bit, the 2.5%, is there so that on rare occasions the pension can rise in real value a little without the government having to announce a specific increase. Worth noting that the UK pension is not a world leader and any boost it gets must be a welcomed improvement. http://home.bt.com/lifestyle/money/investing-pensions/uk-state-pension-one-of-the-worlds-lowest-says-oecd-11364025523350
Huge numbers to most of us tend to be trifling in terms of the figures bandied about at a national level.
Question Author
The triple lock was introduced by the Tories, not Labour !

Mrs May is now considering, apparently, of substituting the triple lock for a double lock ::::

She needs to do something because the present arrangement isn't supportable in the long run. She certainly doesn't want to commit to keeping it as is.
