/// He started saying he could never run as an African-American for the presidency with a ‘white wife’. Chicago’s racially divided political history suggested he had a point as inter-racial marriage often damaged a black politician’s prospects. As a mixed race man, Obama ‘wasn’t black enough’ to rise up with a ‘white wife’, said a friend. ///

I do not know the truth about Obama, but to attain top jobs e.g President of the United States one needs all the help that one can get and a "suitable wife" is often of the upmost importance, particularly if you black. You don't HAVE to love your wife, but she does have to be an asset if one is career minded and i would guess that it is true, probably to a lesser extent in Law, Medicine and Politics.
Islay, I'm not "happy" with it and I'm not saying one way or the other, I merely pointed out that the rumours have been around for years, eg.;

I read this in the DM and I'm sure he had girl-friends before Michelle but it is interesting that this woman who claims that she was his great love doesn't produce one photograph of them together. There is little real evidence of what he 'said' other than the claims made by old 'friends'. How many of us would like to be held account to what we might or might not have said as students? I certainly wouldn't! It's a cheap shot to promote a book, nothing more.
