Surely murder of a defenceless child must carry a greater penalty.

They were acquitted of murder, so I don't think a harsher sentence was available.

I am always being told that manslaughter carries a life term too.
Actually I think you're right. Need to read the sentencing remarks if/when they become available to understand the Judge's reasoning in this case.
They were convicted of 'Causing or allowing the death of...' - I am in no way versed in the law but the sentencing seems low to me.

Some reading here.

/// But former rapper Wiltshire, who claimed to have fathered 25 children, insisted: "I'm not a life taker, I'm a baby maker." ///

What an ugly savage and odious creature he is and to think there are another 25 with the same genes as him.

May I suggest a couple of slug infested bricks?

I don't care what the right on "reasoning" is, can anyone make a case for these vermin ever seeing the light of day again?

I don't see anyone being 'right on' , more people trying to fathom the laws of our land.

Is the sentence long enough? No.
Nowhere near enough, I'm shocked. What that tiny baby went through was pure HELL and no-one helped her. Born to die and suffer she was. Makes me want to cry.

I'm surprised that the prosecution have not appealed the sentence as being too light.
Crazy, the judiciary has been infiltrate by the right-on liberal elite.

About time the swamp was drained and they were replaced with those that will see the will of the majority not just the chattering classes.
Who knows perhaps there may be an appeal for a stiffer sentence.

/// In a statement, children's charity the NSPCC described it as "a deeply disturbing case". ///

/// "We hope an upcoming serious case review provides much-needed answers about the circumstances surrounding this tragic death," it said. ///
With the extent of the injuries that poor child had, I find the sentence to be inappropriately lenient.

But as divebuddy has said - the injuries happened over a week, that means they went back and attacked the child more than once.

When you attack a baby like that, it would seem like a deliberate act.

Very strange.
