Khan told Channel 4 News: "I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances, where his policies go against everything we stand for."

Should they axe the trip?

Upset by a Trump tweet was he ?
I don't see slighting the leader of the world's most powerful nation and ally being a particularly wise move.
I am far from being a Trump fan but I can't see what stopping this state visit will achieve.

Perhaps it should go ahead and when he and Betty are proceeding down the Mall, we can all show our appreciation of the man !
He's slating the London Mayor. He doesn't deserve a state visit.

I'd tell my children off if they posted the crap he does.
There's obviously a clash of personalities here. I don't think Mr Khan's calls will be heeded. Let him come, I say, and let us see what gaffes he makes, first hand.
No way is it a clash of personalities between Trump and Khan, Trump is 'rascist' I to think Trump should not be allowed in our country!
more odious heads of state than trump haven't been banned from the UK - ceaucescu, king Abdullah, etc. it would be an unprecedented move.
Yes.
Is he afraid of hearing the truth about these Terrorist Muslims? Trump say's it, he does it, say what or think what you like about the bloke, he has it right.
No he doesn't. The president of the USA should keep his thoughts off twitter.
It was a daft move by Khan as he had the upper hand in the 'spat' until then given Mr Trump clearly mis interpreted what he meant to say. Now it just looks like he is doing the typical lefty trick of trying to silence your opponent. But I'm guessing Mr Khan is pretty tired right now
TWR....Trump doesn't get anything right.
Khan shouldn't have allowed himself to become embroiled in this, but I don't think he is suggesting that Donald Trump's visit be cancelled altogether - simply that it shouldn't be a State visit with all the paraphernalia that goes with that. He's President of the US and he says he is in complete solidarity with this country. We must exert diplomacy even if he doesn't. The State visit should go ahead.

// The president of the USA should keep his thoughts off twitter.//

Not according to this he shouldn't

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, ensuring that there is no prohibition on the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.
Gosh, Baldric, really?
I think the view was about him exercising self control rather than making law.
//TWR....Trump doesn't get anything right. //

Only in your small view of the world.
YMB...even Boris has given support to Khan in this affair.
Now you are taking things out of context.

You said "Trump doesn't get ANYTHING right".

So now you have done the same as The Donald.
Khan's having a hissy fit over their twitface debacle that's all.
Exactly Tora. It's all handbags at dawn stuff.
