I'm surprised there have been no threads on Tim Farron's resignation tonight as Lib Dem leader. It sounded to me he is saying it's because of the way the media is focusing too much on his Christanity. Is that the only reason do we think?

I saw the story alerted about 90 minutes ago. I suspect the fire is on everyone's minds at the moment.

I don't know whether there's any other reason behind his resignation - perhaps he has thought hard and decided that he cannot be honest with himself with some of the views he has whilst leading a very liberal (small and large letter 'l') party.
Perhaps it has sunk in he is not a good leader either?

He'd probably be more at home in the DUP!
His successor is likely to be Cable. God help us.
surprised gollum has gone he increased his seats by 50%!
Tim Farron resigns: Liberal Democrat leader quits after finding it 'impossible' to be a committed Christian and political leader

Not in the least surprised.
If only St Tony of Blair had had the same qualms ....
well St Tony prayed regularly with St Dubya so he probably had the blessing of big G.
Just seen this ::::::

Ca't say I blame him, although the LbDems did increase their share of MPs last week.

Farron is basically a nice chap, but really isn't cut out for the nastier side of British politics. I wish him well in his future activities.
It may well be a contributory factor, but I'm not really concerned what the reason was. As he was someone who seemed, IMO, to spout utter tosh every time he spoke, I think it is a good thing he's opted to resign. But I've little confidence whoever takes over his party will be much better.
So much for that speech about filling the 'centre ground'...
No real comment on his suitability to run the party, but I thought his grip was tenuous, so probably as well he has gone. Cable is a terrier and will cause much more disturbance if elected. What does concern, and upset, me is that being a Christian, normal in this country until very recently, is now a target for vituperation and renders the believer
unfit for any post. Our village would die as would so many more.
Mr. Fishfinger got to him.

He came across as 'confused' to say the least.....
^ codswallop ;-)
There are plenty of Christians who don't have a problem accepting homosexuality.

I don't think that's true. The problem that Tim Farron had was that he was the leader of a progressive liberal party, and his views on homosexuality can be seen as running counter to what many in his party believe.

It's that schism that was the problem, rather than his faith alone.

Theresa May is a Christian - nobody has an issue with that.
Thank you for that viewpoint SP1814.. I don't have a problem with homosexual relationships (or civil marriage- just with Christian marriage - am thinking hard on this). BUT if I admit to being Christian I'm landed with all sorts of
assumptions..
If 'codswallo'p is aied at meii it is wrong.
Jourdain2 - no it was a reference to DTC's comment about being hit by Mr Fishfinger!
I think that 'CODswallop' was aimed at Mr. Fishfinger.
THANKS both. :)
