One of the things I admired about London when I arrived in the early 80s was that there seemed to be council housing in all areas. I was fortunate and could afford to buy my own home, but I liked that areas like mine, St John's Wood, weren't just the preserve of the rich. It isn't quite like that now of course with ex council flats in the area changing hands for big money.
