How Many Don't Believe In Evolution?
Apparently it is a controversial theory in Turkey so has been taken out of the curriculum.

Louis Leaky first suggested, in the last century, that man originated in the Rift Valley.
But there is no evidence whatsoever that it originated in the Middle East, about 6000 years ago, and for modern, educated people to believe it did, shows a complete lack of intellect.
The difficulty is, of course, that the Biblical version of how life started is such a lynch pin of religion, that its removal would mean the total collapse of those religions.
Its a fascinating subject !

In response to Quangoid, if by proof you want thousands of skeletons showing next to no noticable difference between pairs, yet a transition from apelike to humanlike as one goes down the line, well clearly that's not a reasonable expectation. The ‘Young Earth’ theory is absolute tosh. There is ample evidence that man existed long before that.

That’s not entirely accurate. The biblical version of the creation of man is not the version taught – but to recognise that it’s necessary lay aside those teachings and read the biblical version without pre-conceived notions.

The Old Testament was written rather more than 2000 years ago, but that aside, personally, I believe the bible contains a lot of history and a lot of truth – largely, for reasons of expediency, and often because the content doesn’t align with the preferred view - ignored.

It's certainly used in a bogus way, Naomi, because as I say people tend to just shift the goalposts and require two missing links every time you find the one they originally asked for.
Obviously it's ideal to find as much evidence as possible to support evolution but the fossil record is never going to provide everything you require because, by definition, it simply can't.

The issue of humans evolving from apes and there being a missing link is irrelevant in terms of proving evolution.
The fossil record clearly shows that there were only very simple organisms many, many millions of years ago – and as time went by, more and more complex life forms appear in the fossil record.

The most interesting to me is the ‘Life timeline’ diagram about half way down – showing the earth to be around 4.5 billion years old – with Land life first appearing around 400 million years ago.
The fossil record clearly shows that there were only very simple organisms many, many millions of years ago – and as time went by, more and more complex life forms appear in the fossil record.
