The Muslim Council of Britain don't consider Ahmadis as Muslims, and they are banned in Pakistan from referring to themselves as Muslims.

Oh! dear.......the vultures are hovering. I am just guessing, but I suspect that AOG is using the word "mental" in a wide, non specific sense which is often used for say "confused" or "misled" or some such....NOT describing a mental health disorder. This type of ganging up by the same people against one member is getting monotonous and "dangerous".

Would posters agree because of the stance (a very sanitised version of what they really think) of the MCB they should not be eligible for any future government grants?
Zacs, what on earth are you talking about?
Talbot, imposing 'sanctions' is an interesting idea but it would probably play to the radical elements as an excuse to carry out further atrocities. That's how 13C religious logic works.
Talbot, I'll try to make time to read up on them as I confess not to know enough to answer your question.

I'd rather go and learn a bit more than give an ignorant response.
Has the rain stopped yet?
Well I think it is fair to say they haven't got an 'all inclusive' attitude ... That in most walks of life is frowned upon.

/// ZM - AOG seems to be unconvinced that they are truly Muslim in his OP. ///

Since you are trying to put words in my mouth which I have never said.

Please let me try and explain, I asked the question "But Are These Really Muslims" based on the further information I supplied regarding some other Muslim's unacceptable of them.

So perhaps before accusing me you should be questioning why those other Muslim's views.
Talbot, I would like to see funding withdrawn.

Mamyalynne, this might help. Reading the lines as well at what's in between the lines might also help.

//What is the Muslim Council of Britain?

The Muslim Council of Britain is a national representative Muslim umbrella body with over 500 affiliated national, regional and local organisations, mosques, charities and schools. The MCB is pledged to work for the common good of society as a whole; encouraging individual Muslims and Muslim organisations to play a full and participatory role in public life.

It aims:
• To promote co-operation, consensus and unity on Muslim affairs in the UK
• To encourage and strengthen all existing efforts being made for the benefit of the Muslim community
• To work for a more enlightened appreciation of Islam and Muslims in wider society
• To establish a position for the Muslim community within British society that is fair and based on due rights
• To work for the eradication of disadvantages and forms of discrimination faced by Muslims
• To foster better community relations and work for the good of society as a whole
• To promote inter and extra faith dialogues in the promotion of tolerance and mutual respect in a diverse society//

AOG, unfortunately only the MCoB can determine who are and aren't Muslims. Debating as 'outsiders' serves no real purpose other than to express opinions.

Any change in this position will be incremental but it is the only hope we have that the hard liners stance will be erroded. One is drawn to how the seemingly uncompromising stance of both sides in N Ireland was solved but this isn't very meaningful in such circumstances.

Zacs-Master

/// AOG, don't 'they' stand out enough in condemning the atrocities? Or did you mean other mainstream Muslims should start decrying terrorism? ///

Now that is legitimate debating and a question that I am prepared to answer.

The latter, is my answer, it would be nice to see the majority of them taking to the streets en-mass in their condemnation of terrorism.

ummmm

Perhaps the caring Muslims you speak about were also Ahmadis?
And do you think that's likely anytime soon?
That was to your 14:29 post.
Like catholics & protestants.....not good in S.Ireland

I'm not bright enough to know whether removing any funding would make any difference to their acceptance - it certainly isn't a simple task to alter such entrenched feeling.

Whatever the solution is (if there is one) I feel it is likely to be a long and gradual process.
Interesting link tambo, especially the bit which reads

'Most other Muslims, however, deny that either group is a legitimate form of Islam and regard members of both groups as heretics — people who have corrupted and abandoned Islamic belief and practice'

Says everything really and demonstrates why debate is pointless.
when I read that part Zacs, I just continued despairing.

Thanks for the link Tambo
Alba, it's been said many times before but applying western logic to a middle eastern medieval religion simply doesn't make any sense.
I know Zacs.
Just hope that one day, the world will get along with each other.
Can't see it happening any time soon :-(
Christians derive from MEast beliefs. There was a movement years ago to enjoin christians (cant remember name) but we still practice separately.
