North Korea, Trump And The Odious Mr Kim
Last week the North Koreans were said to have ICBM capability to reach The States but unlikely to have nuclear warheads. Today the White House says they have 60 nuclear warheads that could be missile-launched. None of the mainstream media have yet explained why or how the narrative has changed.

Kim Yo-jong is past diplomacy, he probably takes no notice of any sabre rattling or anger from the rest of the world either, he clearly lost the plot years ago.
Obama should have put this to bed before it got to the nuclear stage, but he didnt so The Donald will have to clear up the mess.

For some strange reason you saw fit to waste three posts trying to find a pedantic hole in a post that's best described as "wondering out loud".
In the long run the point I was making, such as it was, is that it's... well, scary to be as close as we appear to be to the genuine prospect of Nuclear strikes. I think the last time we were genuinely as close would be the 50s and 60s. And, to complete the link, when people say they miss "the good old days", do they mean that bit of it? Of course not, presumably.
And all wrapped up in a vague attempt at humour, partly because it's a not unreasonable way of trying to make the prospect of imminent disaster a little less scary.

Even Trump isn't really blaming Obama for this mess; I think he's more concerned about China's role, and probably rightly so. As long as they weren't inclined to take serious action Obama couldn't either.

I am not convinced he *could* have sorted it out is what I am saying. Maybe he could have tried harder; at the time I can't say I was paying enough attention, because it seemed to me that North Korea's posturing was primarily to impress its own citizens rather than as genuine warmongering. It seems that's changed; or, perhaps, I was just wrong all along.
