I can't think what the defence would be.

As a thought exercise - what defence would you give for this chap's actions?

I can't be defended. Shocking.
no idea but It looks like attempted murder to me and I can't see what defence their can be.

It could have ended badly and the woman is only alive due to the bus driver's quick reaction time.

I suppose that it could have been an accident but ....
* there! doh!
I hope he can be identified and brought before the courts.
I don't think he was paying attention to the bus, so I doubt he was trying to kill the woman, just pushed her out of the way in a moment of reckless and without any thought. Attempted murder? Surely not. So what legally would you charge him with?
None at all. The woman was very lucky thanks to the bus driver. Unbelievable behaviour.
They have arrested someone.
GBH ?
I don't think she was in the way, Jim. It looked like a deliberate act to me.

I hope they throw the book at him.
I did watch the video a few times, but it's hard to really tell. I would like to hear what he has to say, but the thing is, if he didn't know the woman then there's surely no motive other than whatever happened in the split second they met. There's a moment where her leg flies out in front of where he's about to run to -- I'm being deliberately ambiguous in that sentence because I think it's a little unclear whether she stuck it out deliberately or only as she was already falling, but if he thought she was trying to trip him up then he might petulantly have pushed her out of the way without thinking what he was pushing her in to.

He's been arrested and tracked down, and rightly so, but I do want to hear his own excuse before passing judgement. It was, at the very least, monumentally stupid.
i dont like 'indefensible' when it comes to cases .......
and of course it depends what the charge is

if it were attempted murder I think that would be quite easy to defend

altho yeah I hve to say
he does run off his running line and comes over to her
and pushes....

I hope they charge him with whatever they can muster, however, it'll be up to the CPS won't it to determine what charges will stick in trial ?

Nasty excuse for a human being.
he went out of his way to shove her in front of a bus F_F_S!
I saw it as a deliberate push. He had no more right to be there as she had. Interesting to see what develops.
Not sure why she would want to trip him (though not sure why he would push her either!) and if she had known him surely it wouldn't have taken since May to track him down?
Oh, no quibble that it's a deliberate push. I just don't think he knew about the bus.
Based on that footage he has no defence in my eyes.

If he thought she was too close there was ample room for him to move over.

He may not have known the bus was there but knows he's on a busy thoroughfare.
There is no defence even as a thought exercise. He's clearly one of those tw4tts that believes he has a god given right to run\cycle\walk\drive\swim in an exactly straight line at all times, and anyone that interferes with that however unwittingly can be treated accordingly using appropriate force.

I hope he is dealt with extremely harshly.
she's not in his way if he keeps to the straight line he is running
but he runs over to her and then pushes

( declaration - I have to walk along lines of paving stones as I am visually impaired - it is v obvious to me that he veers off course)

and doesnt he easily miss a man earlier on ?
