mikey... thank you again...... at last a useful reply to my posts. You are correct..... why use the word "immigrants" ...a good question, as i find it more difficult as time goes on to find a name for a group of people that doesn't upset anyone. I thought hard as to how one would describe, a no white community and that word seemed the least offensive. Oh! and...

Lovely!....heart warming to see those young people enjoying themselves in such a simple and earnest way, no troubles, no problems, just a crowd of.....Immigrants ...enjoying themselves.
I was going to say not a white face in sight, but how would one know with all that paint and dye splashed all over the place (who clears it up?).

Oh! and mike.....please, this is getting irritating and repetitive from you.....it is the OP who picks, if necessary, the best answer.... NOT YOU.
Good morning mikey.

Why mention the ethnic background at all ?
I was lucky enough to get a free ticket to Glyndebourne a few years ago, and there wasn't a black face to be seen.
But my happy memories of the event was all about the marvellous way that Mozart was performed, not the make up of the audience.
Many thousands of people will enjoy the NHC. Its not my cup of tea, neither yours I would imagine.

"I still find it amazing that there is a generation of people who's first thought when they see a black person is 'immigrant'."
Why?
I find it amazing that you find it amazing. The generation that you are describing, were brought up in an environment where black faces didn't exist...and when they appeared, the question was "where did they come from?"......answer...not from here...they were immigrants.
It is a simple concept of being brought up with certain values, right or wrong and then the whole scene changes.
AB consists of almost three generations with differing experiences, different values and different opinions ......so what makes it "amazing?"

Sorry Zacs.......you will have to spell it out.
Opinions are not right or wrong, back and white......but just that....opinions and developed by one's experiences and my experience is.....if they are black and in the UK, they are immigrants or were immigrants as some time.
That may seem illogical, but to me and many of my generation, that concept still persists. Luckily for all concerned we are likely to all be dead in 5-10 years, so we will see AB as a different animal.

Sqad..the point I am making is that the ethnicity of some of the participants and spectators of the NHC isn't really relevant, any more that it was at Glyndebourne.
I expect that the same thing is found at most theatres, but I wouldn't expect colour or race to be mentioned, when discussing the latest West End play.
