No, Gulliver. What should have happened is: 1. On 24th June 2016, Article 50 should have been triggered, with a statement saying that we are no longer part of the European Union. 2. An announcement made inviting those who want to trade with us to come and talk. 3. A declaration made that we would only pay for what we were absolutely, fully committed to, up to the...

And what price is it that he refers to ?
In any case the value of freedom is massive.
I just spotted this on the BBC website.

Has the EU given a definitive answer to the legal position on wether we HAVE to pay and a DETAILED and SIGNED OFF accounts of the amount he wants?

It always comes back to the one thing really. Legality. Legality of the demand and legality of the amount.

If I have read the reports correctly he hasn't even given an amount he wants (speculation not withstanding). He is making the UK say how much just so he can say we agree we owe.

HE should have the balls to say you owe xxx because of yyy provable by zzz.

Then and only then would the UK be able to question what they want.
As I said in an earlier thread somewhere, we should be making proper arrangements for a no deal pdq.

Armholes to the EU if they keep this up.
I fear it means we'll all be reduced to beggary. UK citizens selling the Big Issue on the streets of Bucharest, lucrative jobs moving from London to Frankfurt, and our huddled masses travelling all over the world in search of a new start.
We should be told the unvarnished truth.
Saying how much we owe is easy. It's zero until there's proof it is otherwise. So that's settled, and we can all move on.
I agree OG but they don't want to tell us how much and why because they know it is zero with no legal standing.

It is why they want us to blink first and admit something that doesn't exist.

cassa: "Has the EU given a definitive answer to the legal position on wether we HAVE to pay and a DETAILED and SIGNED OFF accounts of the amount he wants? " Well the EU hasn't had it's accounts signed off for 20 years so it's bent as a butchers hook anyway.
Caught a snatch of the news today and there was something about Theresa May suggesting £30 billion over five years.A lot less than the £100 billion the EU were bandying about.

I have a figure in mind, sweet FA, we've paid enough into the EUSSR.
Wait a minute,TM is suggesting £ 30 billion over 10 years, our esteemed brexiteers " Britain owes nothing" . Do we need educating ? LOL
Just another delaying tactic in my opinion ...
No. Like cassa I've been advocating preparing for no deal for a long time. It is completely beyond me that young people can see the sort of attitude at the top of the EU and still want to be ruled by those people.
Having said that, on my recent flight home from Italy, I had to explain to very many of my fellow passengers what the 'Shengen' area was and why we had to queue separately as 'Non-Schengen'. One bloke didn't believe me and queued elsewhere for ages before being sent to join us!! We were actually a bit faster than the 'Schengen' lot. :)
We've already told them to do one:

'Over a three-hour Powerpoint presentation, British officials picked apart the EU claims over liabilities'

great, ZM, the EU has always been iffy financially, glad our side have seen through their spurious claims.
Indeed.
What is the carp about future pensions contributions? Surely that is down to the EU.

We would have contributed while we were members, their pension scheme now needs to cover liabilities with fewer members.

I'm fine with contributing where we have signed up beforehand, always have been; but not otherwise. Ex-members aren't liable for much. And we won't have signed up to keep paying for things that will no longer be our responsibility and for which we won't benefit.
The more we try to do the decent thing, the more the EU treat us like naughty children or doormats.
But we are naughty children. We have defied the ruling party and are not going to play the game anymore.

Therefore big brother has to come in and slap us around a bit.

It now depends on wether we stay around for the slapping or walk away intact.

Make a wild guess at my answer of choice, cassa. :)
