Another shooting in London. It seems to me that hardly a day goes by without there being a shooting or a stabbing in a part of London. What can be done about this, is there nothing the Mayor can do? Stronger sentences for when they are caught perhaps?

the mayor has no power over the justice system.
What's the Mayor supposed to do?
Dreadful Barsel....a 14 year old boy this time.
(Prediction: 23rd post)
Stronger sentences only affect things AFTER the criminal act.

A person who is going to shoot a 14 year old boy is hardly NOT going do it just because they may get a few extra years in prison.

Sadly much of this is down to immigration as many of the people involved are from ethnic groups and many are involved in drugs or other crimes.

Sadly it is too late to do much about it, the people are here and we have little control over them.

A couple of weeks ago a lady was driving a car in Brazil and by mistake drove in to one of the slum areas (favela).

Because she had a "nice" car (hire car) she was threatened and then shot when she did not hand over her car.

Sadly we are getting these sort of no-go areas in the UK. Areas full of mostly immigrants who have little in life and try to get what they can by any means, be that a stabbing, shooting etc.

News article about the Brazil crime here:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/07/british-woman-shot-after-family-stray-into-brazil-favela

Almost all of these problems in the UK are caused by our long time lack of control over immigration.

Sadly we are stuck with it.
Woah, I was well wrong. 5th post.
/// There were extra police patrols and enhanced stop and search powers in place across Newham last night as the borough braced for a possible revenge attack. Police said it had taken the action after a spate of shootings in the area. ///

Such savagery seems to be on the increase these days, all down to the failed multicultural, multi-ethnic experiment.
Is the chief police officer also a failure of immigration?
AOG...do you have a crystal ball ?

There is no mention in the BBC link of the ethnicity of the victims and the perpetrators.

Obviously it was a lot worse than you first thought, especially when another ABer apart from me was brave enough to post the truth.
So what do you think of a black police officer being in charge of the case, AOG?
The truth AOG....again, what does your Crystal Ball tell you about this incident, that the BBC and MSN don't ?
so the victim was Brazilian, or am I missing something?
AOG

Please be aware that there is a difference between the truth and your opinion.

Barsel, it would have to be a holistic approach to gun crime in the capital (and elsewhere).

I don't think the answer would come from the Mayor's office, or the police, or social services or schools - it would have to be a joined up effort.

If it were me, I would sanction a working group to analyse what has been done elsewhere to tackle gun and drug crime (perhaps in the US or South America) to see whether lessons and successes there can be applied here, and then whatever funding or process change is needed to reduce these incidents should be immediately sanctioned by central government.

Now, over to the usual suspects to add nothing but their usual comments.

One doesn't need a crystal ball especially when a ball of glass, is just that, a ball of glass.

I put my reasoning down to common sense and well known information of past crimes in certain areas of our Capital.

/// There is no mention in the BBC link of the ethnicity of the victims and the perpetrators. ///

Now there is a surprise, just the same as the police who are asking for information, but seem to decline from providing the information they must hold regarding the descriptions of these perpetrators.

I think that this thread will veer away from 'what do you think can be done', into certain people simply putting across their views about multiculturalism, which isn't what the question is about.

Happens all the time on AB.

I'll come back to this later in the hope that some other interesting ideas are put forward.

I don't hold out much hope.

C'est la vie.
...and right on cue.
Agreed. The news section should be retitled 'Uneducated, Predjudice Viewpoints'.

I've missed where the ethnicity of any of the young men has been mentioned?
