Amazing, can anyone remember any mention of transgender issues, say 18 months ago?

I can only go on my own experience and this when I was going through school I hated wearing skirts and fought to wear trouser and was eventually allowed.
Practical wise trousers make more sense than skirts.

As ever, the main reason, i.e. too-short skirts, becomes subsumed in the rush to attribute 'transgenderism' as responsible for all these decisions.

I'm fairly sure transgender issues predate 2016 -- but, as jth says, it's a minor factor in this decision.

It's a very muddled report from the DM. Anyway, why not let all students wear skirts or trousers as they see fit for themselves?

On a slight aside issue, I've seen school outings where the girls have their skirts barely covering their bums. I think that's a more important thing to worry about.

Surely having the same uniform as the gender they assign to themselves is what they aspire to not to be the same as everyone?

But my children's school has a no skirt policy. I understand it is for ease of enforcement and was, I believe done with consultation from the kids.

Skirts/dresses in schools for the kids in my immediate area are only worn by infants. The juniors and seniors have a trouser only policy and have done for a number of years.

I would be interested to see how many kids are transgender in these schools. Are they catering for one or two, tens, hundreds in an academic year?

We seem to be catering more and more to the minority as if their views, wants and needs out weigh those of the many.

But TBH this sort of policy does no harm because girls often find it more comfortable and easy to wear boys cloths. My own daughter wears boys shoes and trousers to school. It took me all my powers of persuasion to get her to wear a girls blazer. In the end it was about how it fit to her girl shape than anything.

It will also stop the nasty craze there is at the moment of taking pictures up girls skirts without their knowledge!
I would also hazard a guess that if you ask girls at school they would also prefer to wear trousers over skirts.

As ever I'm not a great fan of banning, I think it's a shame the School could not enforce a skirt length policy on the pupils wearing ridiculously short skirts and have taken this move instead.

JTH is right @ 10:48, it's a sensible decision. I've seen the girls (not "young women", *girls*) in town & the way the skirts are worn leaves very little to the imagination & are highly inappropriate IMO.

Lots of girls attending all girls schools wear their skirts as pelmets on the journey to and from school.

Oddly, nobody was transgender or gender neutral when I was in school.
But nobody had ADHD either, or if they did it was cured by a board duster travelling towards them at speed.
