The Police have a job to do and a uniform in which to do it. This includes shoes, get over it. Our church would probably wave a collection box under their noses.

It's easy for Westerners to scoff at the outrage caused by anyone entering a mosque with shoes on.

But the simple fact is, it does cause deep offence to Muslims who take their rituals far more seriously than Christians do.

So it is not a matter of being 'precious' - the actions of the police will have caused deep offence and upset.

The issue of whether or not the police should have entered in the way they did is a separate debate - but I am responding to the OP which infers that the worshippers were being over-sensitive.

To our Western eyes, it is easy to assume so, to the worshippers, it is not.

It's another instance of incompatability, isn't it This Britain, British police, British rules. I understand that this offends and goes against Muslim mores, but it is inescapable in the current climate and they must accept it, dislike it as they may. I would hate to have the plod barging into my house for some reason, but I would have to put up with it. Muslims must learn to do the same in the interest of law and order.
