There will no doubt be protestors in Manchester for the Conservative Conference. The protests are usually bigger when the party holding the conference is also the Government. When Labour were in Government, a long long time ago, its conference was the focus for protests.

Now the Conservatives are in power, people who object to cuts in Police numbers, to the renewal of Trident, to the huge increase in homelessness, to increased hospital queues, to brexit, will use their democratic right to protest, while the Government have their annual shindig.
But it is unfair to claim the protestors are there at the behest of Corbyn. They might well share the same values as the Labour leader, but they are not there to promote him, they are there to show their displeasure at the Government's austerity and its impact on real people. There will be Labour members in the protests, but the majority of the rallies will be organised by the likers of the Socialist Workers party and other fringe players.

There is no denying that people have the right to protest but some people think the only way to protest is by causing disorder.

Totally agree, why doesn't the Home secretary step in and ban any mass protests in the interests of safety and security?

Well, it kind of is, Daveman. Unless you have only 30 people and some pickets, protests are by their nature quite disruptive things. That isn't a reason not to have them. So long as the protests are actually held with peaceful intentions, though, I don't see what the problem is.

There is a security cordon around the Conference not to protect them from any fictional baying mob, but to prevent terrorism against members of the UK Government. Police officers and resources are deployed at the Conferences regardless of any protestors who may also turn up.

Then why is it that completely different rules apply to the far-right, are their concerns about immigration, the rise of Islam in this country, and the building of Mosques etc, just as important to them?

'Security' - the operative word. That's not as a result of protest - that's as a result of the fear of thuggery. Are Mikey and Krom actually saying that's acceptable?

People use "security" for all kinds of ***. As far as the information in this story goes, all that appears to have happened is that some people on the internet wrote that they were going to come, and so the organisers of the gin tasting evening decided this was a security risk.

I'm sorry, I probably look like an awful monster, but I just cannot bring myself to get upset about this. I think they over reacted to people who were deliberately messing around with them the internet. Boo hoo.

You think the Conservatives in Manchester will be prevented from speaking ? That their message (assuming there is one), will be curtailed ?
I don't. I think the protests will have zero effect at shutting up the Tories and zero influence in changing any Conservative Government policies.
It will graphically show that a lot of people do not like this Government and its policies, which is fair comment in a democracy.

Also if you actually look at the Tameside conservative facebook page, you can see that there are a number of people publicly stating that they are so very angry and disappointed at the... erm... "far left activists" (read: people on twitter saying mean things) disrupting their gin evening that they are planning on sending in donations.

I'd hate to be cynical about this but...

I agree. Disrupting that gin party will just prove to be a tonic for Mrs May. Corbyn's shot himself in the foot with this one.
